If it's been less than a year, you can send it in to nintendo to be fixed for free.

My hinge is broken, but it doesn't affect my DS Lite at all. If you must have it replaced, then go ahead and incovenience wonderful company such as Nintendo, but ask yourself this: "What if your new hinge simply breaks again?" As longs as you get to play the wonderful catalogue of games available for the DS, consider yourself lucky. My broken hinge doesn't make Professor Layton boring, nor does it detract from the fact that Apollo Justice is a fantastic continuation of a great series. Accept the positive things in life, or else you will never realize just how good you have it. Make haste!

I am of the opinion that, while I love Nintendo, they should replace broken hinges because the DS' that have them are lower quality products. That's why they come with warranties. And if they new hinge breaks again, I would be back on the phone with Nintendo, getting it fixed once again.

=D

You can double check whether or not Nintendo will cover it and even file a warranty claim by visiting their support website

I just recently broke my DS Lite's hinge after dropping it. I thought that I could do it myself and fix it and ended up breaking it even further. I decided to get it professionally done so I searched online and found videogame911.com . They estimated my system within 24 hours and I had it back in that same week. I recommend them for any DS repairs.

Just a note, you know that this topic was made back at March of 2008 and the guy probably had his DS fixed already or got a new one, right?.

Why did you revive this topic?

Anyways, it might depend on who you talk to. Someone else at nintendo might say hinge cracks are under the warranty.
