So I've basically inherited my younger brother's DS after he passed away a couple of years ago. So, needless to say, it has some pretty high sentimental value. However, being the klutz that I am, I managed to drop it in transit one day, breaking one of the hinges.

So what I'm wondering is this: since it's an original DS, is it possible to have the hinge repaired/replaced anywhere (and if so, where? Should I send it in to Nintendo to have it refurbished?) or should I sit back and accept the fact that I suddied my brother's memory by breaking his system?

Suggestions?

First of all, I'm really sorry for what happen. As for the DS, if you still have the warranty, then you should send it back to Nintendo to have it fixed. Otherwise, go to RadioShack. I'm pretty sure they can have it fixed. Oh, and you better get that hinge fixed fast. If you don't fix it soon, the wires in the hinges can mess up the Top Screen because of the wiring.

I am sorry for your loss.

As far as sending it to Nintendo..i'm pretty sure you won't get the same DS back(you may want to call them to confirm this). You'll get one that has already been repaired or new(although if its a phat DS, they probably don't have new ones on hand anymore). A repair shop, if there are any, might be the only way to guarantee you get the same DS back. Goodluck to you.

Thanks for that, Spade. I'll definately check RadioShack and see if they can fix it up. As far as the warranty, I haven't been able to find the original paperwork for the system, so I'm assuming that my brother had thrown it away or lost it. :/

Since this was years ago, the warranty is most likely over. It only lasts like 1 year.

the original paperwork is not needed, just tell nintendo that the ID code on the back has worn off and you lost the box...

and when they ask when you bought it, say 6 or 7 months ago.

they might replace it.

Sorry about what happend to your brother. You can probably fix it by going to Radio Shack or somthing. You probably can't send it back to any target or nintendo stores or anything because the warrenty lasts only one year.
