I know this is kind of beating a dead horse around here but seeing all the threads regarding the ways that people would change the Wii U has me on the fence over buying one. The complaints about the operating system and battery life of the game pad have left me with doubts over whether I should buy now or wait to see what happens at E3. There are a few games that I would buy now (Blop2, NSMBU, Scribblenauts, maybe FIFA 13') but past that I want to know what's on tap for the rest of the year and hopefully E3 sheds some light on upcoming Nintendo and Third Party releases. I guess my worry lies in the possibility of a future hardware redesign in 2013 (highly unlikely) and the quality/quantity of games slated to come out in the next year. So the question is should I buy now, wait to see what comes of E3, or wait until holiday 2013 to see what the future of Wii U holds. In addition any thought's about the likelihood of GTA 5 coming to Wii U?

Wait til at least March or E3, then we'll have a little bit better understanding of where the library is going and how 3rd parties are going to work out.

Quite a few games coming out around that time if I'm not mistaken, Monster Hunter, Pikmin, Rayman, etc. By then we also should be getting some sort of ideas as to the future releases on the console.

I hope we get some indication soon. I love my WiiU but only have Nintendo Land. None of the announced games seem like must haves to me. I know Mario Kart will eventually come out so that'll be great but I don't think they said when the release is. I keep holding out hope for some rpgs.

Yeah I know what you mean. I really want one, but the main game I wanted for it (NSMB) didn't hook me like the Wii version did, and very few of the confirmed future releases interest me. I want to know what Retro and Monolith Soft are making :(

that's the problem, I don't want to get my hopes up but I think if we don't get it, it will be a sign of a potential drying up of some key third party support.

Eh, the third party support can't possibly be any worse than the Wii's was, where you had to rely on the oddball developer to port the game over with a decent effort put in, or their quirky unique experiments.

hell, i say buy the Wii U and take what you get. You are in on the beginning of a 5 year journey, it will start off slow and begin to build and build. It may or may not be the uber console, but im sure it will be worth the trip over time. Why wait? The system is very enjoyable right now.

WreckEm711

I wouldn't be so quick to say that, if I were you. As much as I've been against some of those "quirky experiments" on the system over the years, especially from the bigger publishers, developing for the Wii was at least relatively cheap and allowed smaller developers to make games for it. I don't think the Wii U will provide that same opportunity for the smaller budget publishers/devs (at least with retail titles; digital offerings should be plentiful, though), and if the larger publishers aren't excited for producing games for the system, which most don't seem to be at this very moment, the system's non-Nintendo future doesn't look too promising. Still, it's too early to set the system's fate in stone.

Time to get closer to the topic. TC, if you're unsure about what's to come with the Wii U, wait. Contrary to how Videodogg feels (and with all due respect), my take on the matter is that since no one's forcing you to pay $300+ for a system you're not sure about, give it time to see if things turn in your favor. No point in making that great of an investment for a non-necessity that you're not even entirely confident will be worthwhile. If a redesign/price drop/etc. DOES come along, you won't be feeling the sting of betraying your thoughts because you jumped into too soon. The odds of getting burned by buying a video game system too late is much less likely to happen than buying one too soon if you're not sure of what's to come. As long as you have something to keep you over, wait for as long as you need to before buying the Wii U (or any other gaming system) until you KNOW that you'll getting the experience that you want.

If you wait :

Better games will have been released.

More games will have been released.

Prices on todays games will be lower, as new games at that future time will fetch top dollar.

Possible improvements on the Wii U hardware/software (Wireless Headset, slow OS, Memory offered, online options like Party chat, etc).

Lower Priced Wii U.

If you buy now :

You will join us.

You can play 1st party exclusives like Nintendoland and New Super Mario U right now.

You can check out 3rd party exclusives like Scribblenauts Unlimited (74/100 metascore) or the love it or hate it Zombi U (77/100).

You can buy multiplatform games (kind of pointless though to buy a new machine to play games you can already play). Of course, if you are coming from only a Wii, those multiplatform games could be more enticing...although the Wii U's asking price is higher than the competition if those multiplats are your main reasons for buying the machine.

You can check out the Wii U's tablet controls and imagine the possibilities.

I bought a Wii U and I like it. It's not perfect, true, but what system is? I have Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros. U, Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition, Assassin's Creed III, and Scribblenauts Unlimited, all of which are very solid games. I would like to see a new Zelda, a new 3D Mario (Mario games look awesome in HD, as evidenced by New Super U), Conduit 3, and some other good FPSs. New IPs would be cool, too.

It doesn't bother me that we don't know what's in store for the Wii U-- the mystery of a system's future and what a company will do with it is part of the system's attractiveness.

I bought the deluxe system. I think it's awesome. Look when I buy stuff I don't care what other people like when it comes to consoles. I buy what I believe I will like. I have batman, nsmbu, sonic, avengers, epic Mickey, and of course Nintendo land. The fact that black ops2, batman, and assassins creed, with ninja gaiden and madden, as well as tekken also titles that came from 3rd party support is good. The fact that GTA IV may or may not come too WiiU is really inconsequential. You will always have good games coming. But you have too like the games offered. Isn't zombieu not a good game? My point is you there are plenty of great games, the control pad is a great feature. You can operate every part of your tv with it. Good media hub.

Scribblenauts is also on Steam. But ZomiU is a compelling reason to get a WiiU. DO NOT buy it for TVii. It's not very helpful, frankly, but may be more useful once they add DVR functionality and Netflix.

I think I'm gonna take the plunge and buy one this weekend. In addition to the ports already out I have a good feeling that Nintendo's first party games will be stellar like usual. The technology is intriguing to me and I'd rather support a company I love then to buy a competing console for 3rd party games...

I would wait at least until after e3, but more likely until we get a new SKU that has longer battery life in the gamepad and a bigger HDD (or a lower price)

Yeah, I should also mention that on Steam it's a fraction of the price as well.It was kind of odd how different the prices were as there wasn't a big gap on release dates.

I wasn't really wanting a Wii U to be honest, at least not untill March when MH comes out  But my hubby wanted it so we ended up getting it this month. And I acutally like it a LOT more than I thought I would, so far we have Nintendo Land, Sonic & All Stars Transformed, Epic Mickey and NSMB U. They're are all really good games and we're having a lot of fun with them.

I'd recommend getting the Deluxe Edition since it's only $50 more and you're getting more space/hard drive and Nintendo Land which is sold seperatly now for $59.99. I don't see why anyone would even consider getting the reg/white one :P

As long as you like Nintendo and it's games I don't see you regretting getting it. There's already some great games out for the Wii U and it's just the begining, I'm sure a lot more is in store for us with in the next year or two alone.

I would probably wait. Besides, Wii U is available everywhere now. In fact, you can get it at Costco at discounted price. Both Sony and Microsoft are going to unveil their new systems REALLY soon. If you have money to spare, I'd say why not. But if you are cash strapped, I'd hold out because the Wii U currently doesn't really have any great exclusives.
