After the massive price cut was announced, I decided to earn some cash and buy a 3DS. I want to play Kid Icarus and RE Revelations but most of all I want to play RPG games from the DS such as Dragon Quest series and Golden Sun. And maybe pokemon games. Is it worth it?

Yeah, because you get more cool features and after the price drop it's only $35 more than a DS Lite.

I play Zelda Phantom Hourglass on my 3DS, me and my sister share the cartridge because she has a DS Lite.

Yeah! Buy the 3DS at the reduced price and then you can enjoy all your DS games. Then when the 3DS lineup really builds up you won't have to go out and spend $170 on a 3DS. If you buy a DSi you'd be laying down $150, and then later on spending another $170 for the 3DS.

I've heard complaints that DS games on the 3DS are lower quality than on the DSi, but I only ever had the phat DS and going from that to the 3DS was a HUGE improvement. So, yeah I'd recommend picking it up and then getting the good 3DS games as well as some amazing DS games you missed out on.

Yeah, definitely there are tons of DS games worth playing, go for it. However I was disappointed in Dragon Quest 9. The story wasn't very interesting and it seemed like more of a mmorpg than a rpg with a good story. I would definitely recommend Mario and Luigi: bowser's inside story and Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. Along with Radiant Historia, though that game is hard to find now

I'd recommend Zelda Phantom Hourglass, Zelda Spirit Tracks, Super Mario 64 DS, Mario Kart DS.

If you never played pokemon, then try out Pokemon Black or White, the pokemon sprits look odd at first, but they will grow on you, also the story (in my opinoun) is the best I've seen in any pokemon game.

After the price drop I'd definitely say it's a good idea. :) The DS has a great gaming library.

definetely a smart idea. They say that the enlarged resolution makes games look bad, but I hardly notice the difference and it looks easily as good as the DSi XL, perhaps better. Also you get analog control which is very useful for games like Super Mario 64 DS. I recommend games like Super Mario 64 DS, New Super Mario Bros., Zelda Phantom Hourglass, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, any Pokemon games they're all great, and Mario and Lugi: Bowser's Inside Story.

IDK, I bought mine to play ds games because I was still rocking an OG DS. After playing zelda 3ds, the ds games I played look really pixelate. IDK, maybe it was just the game I was playing(pokemon HG and Black).

With the price drop on the 3DS 12th of august I would think there will also be a price drop on the DSi? Which the games do look better then on the DSi.

As long as you don't mind how DS games look on the 3DS then yes, definitely worth it.

Why do people keep complaining about this? Seriously, all you have to do is press Start + Select and BAM!, normal DS(lite) quality. Stop complaining.

No, you have to press and hold both, or else every time you pause the game the screen size will go out of whack.:p

I always press both anyway, so doesn't really matter, can be kind of irritating though. Shoudl just be an option in the settings menu, can't forget then. Pokemon White in full screen is just terrible.

i think 3ds games look fine in fullscreen on the 3DS, I prefer using fullscreen then original resolution, but I guess its personal opinion. I hardly notice a difference for most games.

Just don't play them on a regular DS and you'll be fine (this is a case where ignorance really is bliss). When upscaled, DS games look awful on the 3DS. When viewed at native resolution, they're insanely small.

I did this myself. I have a DS, but it's top screen cracked a couple of years ago. So I started playing DS games I never got to play on my DS when I got my 3DS.

I never have noticed them being really lacking in quality myself.

I was also thinking of buying a DSi XL or a 3DS mainly for the great games that the DS has to offer, but im kinda sceptical about it since i heard the games look bad in the 3DS. Maybe i'll have too wait for the XL to have a price drop and then buy it. What do you guys think any suggestions ?

3DS will do fine. Especially if you've never played DS before. They don't look bad, just a bit stretched and less quality. But ofcourse you can just use the trick (though you will get a smaller screen, just do what you prefer.)

With the 3DS you will atleast be ready for the future. Because when you buy a XL, you'll see cool 3DS games which you then cannot play. (Thus most likely buying a 3DS and then having spent 2 times the amount of money you really had to spend for the same thing).

I wouldn't, you myne as well get a 3DS to play 3DS games, the lineups will be great, and even if you don't get very many 3DS games, theres a better browser and more apps and stuff. Also you get analog control which is good for Super Mario 64 DS and stuff. The DSi XL won't be getting very many new games, so it wouldn't be a smart investment now. I hardly notice the difference in quality for DS games on the 3DS.

No it isn't worth it, DS games look terrible on the 3DS. It's a joke. I can't believe these people are telling you it's a good idea.

I'd recommend Zelda Phantom Hourglass, Zelda Spirit Tracks, Super Mario 64 DS, Mario Kart DS.

Spinnerweb

I'd recommend against Spirit Tracks and Super Mario 64 DS(don't mean any disrespect to you:)). I would ONLY pick up Spirit Tracks if you like Phantom. I thoroughly enjoyed Phantom Hourglass--my favorite game of that year--but did not care for Spirit Tracks that much. I'm actually yet to finish it, but have invested a fair amount of time in the game.

As for Mario 64. I'd skip that as it doesn't control well--it does NOT use the analog--and I have a feeling that Mario 64 will be released as a 3D game on the 3DS vC.

Also, DS games do not look that bad. The 3ds screen is a higher resolution than the ds, so the image is stretched and can be considered a tad blurry. However, you can always play the ds games in their native res which more or less fixes the problem, though it does border the screen.

I would also strongly recommend against buying Super Mario 64 DS. I picked it up on launch because, like with the 3DS, there were no games out for the DS at first. The game controls poorly. You can approximate the analog stick by using one of the shoulder buttons for finer control, but it's an absolute mess (so is the camera). You can also use the silly analog thumbstrap, but it's useless because as soon as you move your thumb, the stick recenters, and it bumps up against the edges of the touch-screen. It's worse than most iPhone on-screen controls. And for a game that revolves around analog input, it pretty much screws the whole thing up. I don't know how the game scored as well as it did. The minigames are cool, though.
