Hi,

I'm lookinng for advice on buying a DSi from Japan:

Firstly, should i buy a DSi? i do not own a DS, PSP or any such console, is it the best option?

Secondly, are there any compatability issues between Japan and Europe with everything from games to WiFi?

Lastly, how do i go about buying one in Japan from Europe? Can anyone suggest any good websites/suppliers?

Thanks

To be honest, that's up to you. If you want the DSi, you can buy the DSi. But my guess is that a DS would be a lot cheaper.

Not that I know of, unless there's something special with the country you live in. I think games are region free as well, but that's something you would want to check first. You would probably have to buy an adapter for the power socket. I bought my PSP from Japan, and everything worked fine.

Ebay?

Ebay.

Also, since its new, and the shipping is around the world, it will costs you lots.

Its also likely that you'll need a transformer to charge the batter, depending on your region.

ALB4L

I own a PSP and DS, and I have to say I play my DS A LOT more than my PSP, but it really depends on what you look for in a handheld console. I personally play a lot of RPGs, there are a lot more on the DS than the PSP. (well.....that are good)

Secondly, are there any compatability issues between Japan and Europe with everything from games to WiFi?

ALB4L

I was actually considering getting one, my friend is actually in Japan till the 25 of November. Until I read articles that Nintendo has confirmed it's region locked. So yes there will be compatability issues.

I'd say either wait for it to come to NA, (assuming you live in NA) or get the DSLite.

Thanks for all the advice, i think i'll get a DS Lite in the mean time and see what happens when the DSi comes out in europe. Cheers also for the heads up about it being region locked, i hadn't seen anything to suggest that.

Why would you assume he lives in NA if he clearly mentions Japan and Europe throughout his whole post? Just thought I'd point that out.

unless you are in a rush to get some game before may 09, wait for the american DSi launch, so you can fully enjoy all of its capabilities

Yeah, recently I had bought a Japanese Pokemon Platinum from Play-Asia.com. This website is my favorite in foreign gaming, I also checked, they are not in stock right now, but pre-ordering is coming soon for the DSi. The only thing is that shipping take about two weeks to get to America, but you could pay an extra $20 to speed it up, but I never tried it though.

Good Luck, and tell me how the New DSi works out (if you plan on getting one)!

#1 I don't suggest buying it, seems like a HUGE waste of money.

#2 I thikn there is code locking

#3 don't risk being scammed, wait till it comes out when you live if you get it.
