Hi everyone, I'm preping myself for the launch of the Wii U and came accross this, I know the system isn't out yet but if anyone knows the answer please share.

So can I run HDMI for video and RCA at the same time for sound? Reason being my monitor doesn't have speakers and I have always used a seperate RCA cables for my sound (no I don't have optical) through my receiver and my Astro A40s.

In the past I have done seperate sound source for the 360 and the PS3 while going HDMI for video.

I really really hope this is the case, otherwise my rig is gonna have to be seriously adjusted...

i think you might be able to but i don't know...

you could connect the hdmi to your tv and use your wii RCA cables(there is a slot for it on wiiU) and just connect the red and white cables to whatever device your using for sound.

the easiest way though is to connect the wiiU straight to your reciever(if you have one) then your reciever to the tv.

The ps3 lets you do that, but knowing nintendos UIs, I wouldnt be surprised if this was overlooked. Doesn't your tv have some kind of audio out?

I can't be 100% sure, but it would make sense at the 360 relies on this for people using a turtle beach. I assume Nintendo would make it so you can do this, I'm sure they know that some people use a monitor. Otherwise it would be very inconvient for monitor users.

Ok, so I'm up and running and just checked out the settings.

I can't believe it... There is no way to do HDMI AND RCA at the same time, at least not from what I can see from the settings. For the time being I am going to have to go through the headphone jack into my Astro mix amp. Or maybe it's time to get a proper reciever... : P

Well I'm off to boot mario. Have fun with your Wii U everybodii!!
