Just curious if this could happen in the future to expand the wii's technical abilities. I don't know anything about computers.

Good idea. Or the GC memory card slot. I want to create my own Wii channel. To play shareware.

Doubtful. Flash memory is too slow to use as RAM.

I'm pretty sure the Wii is already well designed in terms of hardware balancing. It probably has enough RAM to support the rest of the system without being a hindrance to performance. Adding more RAM shouldn't make a difference. Even with computer games, RAM isn't the big issue as long as you have enough.

As RAM, no.  As virtual RAM, maybe, but in any case it would not be implemented.

Flash cards are slower than a HD.

Besides you don't need anymore ram when you're doing standard definition and no normal mapping or parallax mapping. The 360 and PS3 need a load more memory since they are rendering 3x as many pixels on the screen and 3x as many texture layers on any given surface.

flash memory is a storage device (SD Card) you store data on this as if it was a hard drive, which you can retrieve later on even if you turn your wii on or off.

Ram is random access memory which works differently then a storage device. RAM termporarly holds data and releases it after your done using it, the more RAM you have, the more programs/games you can run at once. If your RAM can't handle everything you are running, then you will most likely have a critical error. (Blue screen on Windows for example) If you turn your Wii off, your RAM forgets everything it had temporarly stored.

Virtual RAM.  The software(firmware) creates a file on a readable and writable storage device which pages in RAM that are rarely accessed in a certain time frame are stored until needed.  It is a technique used to reserve system RAM for data that is being used.

For those who think is has to be a fast access storage device, wrong.  It can be a tape drive if necessary.  All that matters is that the data can be recovered when necessary.  It is up to the programmers to use this technique wisely.

Well, that doesn't apply to the Wii.
At any rate, I had not seen that yet...that's probably the biggest plus I've seen on Vista, actually o_o (DX10 apart).

:P of course it doesn't apply to the Wii, silly boy! It's a great feature, I use a 512MB card on this machine w/ Vista. Makes a difference for small apps, I think.
