I bought a US DS lite, tried to charge it with a converter but didnt work. I have been charging it through the USB cable via my laptop and that works fine. I also bought a charger from Ebay (Not a genuine Nintendo charger) but this doesnt work either.

I borrowed my friends UK Nintendo charger and that charged my DS up no problem. I even borrowed my friends US adaptor that he uses for his laptop and that didnt work.

I am thinking that i might have a dodgy USA charger

thanks

What do you mean by convert? Because correct me if I'm wrong but the UK uses around 220V or so for their electricity and US uses 110V. If you just used one of those plug adapters might have pooped your charger, because the DS charger doesn't have a voltage range. You need to put the charger through a transformer.

Maybe you just need to just buy a regular UK charger..not a converter

I have been told that if i buy a UK charger i will run the risk of doing damage to the DS because of the voltage difference, plus where in the owrld can you buy an oringnal DS charger from?

I have ordered a stepdown transformer 230v down to 110v (45KW) so hopefully that will do the trick, if not then i suppose i will just have to charge it through the laptop.

Nah, that wont happen. Oh and for original Nintendo brand DS chargers if it's a DS Lite they're usually around handheld accessory sections of stores like Wal-Mart. Even a 3rd party will do the job I have a 3rd party one that works fine, plus I find it better because it has a longer cable instead of Nintendo's.

They sell replacement chargers in any store that basically carries the DS and it's games. You might want to try there for a new one. You might have just gotten a defective one. Did you buy the DS new? You might have a warranty of you did. Hope this helps. :)

You are lucky you didnt blow your DS. They use 220volt and thus DS's sold there will come with the 220volt charger. If you look on the back of the plug, you will notice that it only says 110 (or 120). It does not state 110~220 volt like say, the PS2 power adapter or a laptop AC adapter. The way I charge my DS (because im out of country with a US DS) is that I have external batteries that I can connect up to my PSP and DS. Charge it up and then charge my DS.
