Snaking in Mario Kart DS isn't cheating. It's a technique, if you don't like the advantage it gives, you're free to learn how to do it too. The thing that wrecked Mario Kart DS was that there was no penalty for quitting a match. Everytime you were beating someone they quit on you.

Someone who doesn't play Smash Brothers a lot might not know about the power of the Home Run Bat, is it not fair to use that? I'm not saying I like the snaking in Mario Kart DS, I'm just saying it's not cheating. Cheating is breaking the rules, and snaking is within the rules, or else they wouldn't have put it in the game.
^ yeah that makes sense, i just think how fun could it be if the only way to stay competitive is to learn a silly little trick? if everyone has to snake the whole way through, you dont need any skill to win, and it cant be much fun..
Snaking was an exploit, no matter how you look at it. Nintendo obviously didn't intend people to play it like that, or they wouldn't have taken it out. Honestly it ruined the online for me, I didn't want to have to twiddle my thumb back and forth like a madman just to have a chance at winning.

Just like they got rid of friend codes, gave us better online, gave us an external harddrive.. the list goes on. If there's one thing you should learn about Nintendo it's that they rarely listen to our complaints. The only reason they'd take something out of the game is because they don't believe it's meant to be played that way.
this is the first i heard about snaking. i always thought they were cheaters. but is it still snaking if they fall of the edge of of a track and they reappear again like a second later? and if say a driver drove into the wall and came out still ahead, is that any skill or is that cheating?
i would like to know the answers before jumping to conclusions when i get the game :)
It's not technically cheating, It's an exploit that Nintendo never took into consideration. I'm glad that Nintendo Took it out of MKW, It gives everyone a more equal chance of winning.
Snaking isn't cheating, but I don't think that's what TC was talking about. There are actual cheaters online in DS, who give themselves infinite stars and stuff like that.

I agree with you aransom. Drift boosts take skill to do, it's in the game to use anytime you want. You have to knwo how to use it to do it, so lke he said, if people don't like it then they have the choice to learn how to do it... or be little babies and shut the game off sothey don't lose. I don't know why it'sbeing taken out. The ITEMS in the game are ridiculous. All the game does now is rely on items. It's never a fair race anymore. THats my opinion.
Also, in IGN's game review, the reviewer commented that if you drive backwards while playing online, the game will kick you out :DEternal_Phoenix
I was a little heartbroken when I read that. In MKDS online I would usually win the first three races and be guaranteed first place so on the last race I would race to the first set of items and wait for the others to complete their first lap. I would then race with them as if I had been the whole time, but getting last place items, so I had a little fun. A shameful act? Yes, but I enjoyed it nonetheless... :lol: And I don't think snaking ruined MKDS online... the damn egg1, the tank car, and other cars with high drift power ruined it... All the other cars played normally.
