I have tried to play chrono trigger a couple times on theDS and I just cant seem to get into the story or the gameplay. I'm really starting to think that it is a over rated game. I think I have played better RPG on the DS. Any one out there think the same.

No, you're 15 years late. Obviously it's not going to be as good compared to DS RPGs running on better hardware. I still thought the port was fun though.

Chrono Trigger is an amazing game. I've played it on ever game system it went out on. Its a really good game. It goes down as one of the best RPGs in my book. And PS: if I told my sister this, she would go crazy, my sister loves this game, hetr favorite game of all time. She replayed it so many times, that she lost count one she got over 20 play throughs

I agree actually. I never got into the SNES game and recently I tried playing the DS port, and I just couldn't. For lack of a better word, I found it rather boring.

Chrono Trigger is a case of Seinfeld Is Unfunny.

To quote Tv tropes:

There are certain shows that you can safely assume most people have seen. These shows were popular and considered fantastic when they first aired.

Now, however, these shows have a curse upon them. Whenever we watch them, we'll cry, "That is so old" or "That is so overdone". The sad irony? It wasn't old when they did it. It wasn't overdone when they made it up. But the things it created were so brilliant and so popular with other show writers that they were not only copied, they became woven into the fabric of that show's genre — to the point that they are taken for granted, and endlessly repeated. Although they often began with the intention of shaking up an existing status quo and saying something new, they in turn through a process of over-exposure and imitation became the status quo, and are thus subject to accusations of being Rule Abiding Rebels by later generations who aren't aware that they did it first.TV Tropes

By today standards, granted, it's not that good. However, Chrono Trigger made the standards become what they are today.

I never played the SNES one and after playing many DS RPGs, I finally tried

I was blown away, the game is beyond awesome. One of the best RPGs I have ever played.

The Story is amazing, the characters are amazing, soundtrack is amazing, so much content, really great game.

I think you haven't given the game much of a chance TC. Alot of JRPGs start off slow an Chrono Trigger has a lot of positive aspects to it. I am curious as to what these better JRPGs are though. Even by todays standards I still think Chrono Trigger does a lot of things better than the crap out this generation.

I think a few people overrate it saying its the best RPG ever or whatever, but I dont think many will argue that its not a fantastic RPG, 15 years old or not.

Chrono Trigger is a fantastic game, there is no denying that. If you consider it the "best game of all time" then yes, you are over rating it...especially because such a thing doesn't exist. If you consider it a now Classic game that was groundbreaking for its time but by today's standards is nothing particularly exciting. Then you are not over rating it.

What's even worse is that the DS "enhnaced port" was a disappointing cheap cash-in. I was hoping they would bring Chrono series to the next generation via a proper re-make of Trigger/Chross or a brand new spiritual sucessor.

My first introduction to the game was on the DS, and I really enjoyed it. I just dropped it in to see how it was when I got home with it the first night, and about five hours later I had been betting on the foot-races like a fiend... I hadn't even gotten into the first act of it!

I would imagine it largely depends on what you look for in a game, and whether or not you're into what "ChronoTrigger" is... I don't fault anyone for not liking it, but in my case it was an RPG with just the right amount of minutia and broad strokes that I enjoy without over-abundance and dizzying choice structures... A cool game. Over-rated? Perhaps. Most things are, you either like it or you don't. but called a good game by most reviewers and players alike? No, I would say that's pretty spot-on.

;)

I think my opinion on this is that to each his own. I mean, everyone has his or her own preferences. Just because I like FPS doesn't mean RPGs are lame. Quite the contrary. More genres mean they provide a more enriched gamers environment. I think RPG gamers understand story more and are good at different skills including magic.

Yeah, it would be ludicrous of me to look down on other genres just because I "think" FPSs are the best.

Well it was called the best RPG for handhelds, so yeah I would say it is overrated.

Hmmm I was thinking of buying this on the DS soon, but I am not sure if I will enjoy it or not. I hear some people saying the game was amazing and has aged now making it just good. To me that is true with most games, but not something that happens to the best of the best. Mario 64, ocarina of time and more games are just as fun as they were when they released. So if Chrono Trigger is not one of those games, it simply is not one of the best games ever as people say.

NaveedLife

No, not at all, both of those games are good at best compared to what is available these days

Chrono Trigger is a great game if you've played other games of it's time and if you're just starting to play the game or it's genre now they're good games

Yes seriously

For people who never played Mario 64 or OOT when they (or games like them) were released they have not held up that well, they have horrible cameras, twitchy controls, and simply adequate visuals. Can they still be enjoyed today? Sure, as a look back for people and for nostalgia but for someone who's never played them? They're passable games that are playable, they're not great and they're not memorable, they're just able to be played.

Chrono Trigger is a bit better then either of those games because things like camera and controls issues don't plague the game just because it's older. The visuals are simple but pleasing unlike the ugliness that crept in when 3D gaming was just starting in the mainstream.

Does that mean that everyone is going to love it? No way, for the most part the people who love the game will be people who played it or other games like it during that time. People who are just getting into the game or games like it then will find a lot to enjoy but it's not going to blow their socks off. The game is too dated.

Geez we're talking VIDEO GAMES not religion. I loved Chrono Trigger when it came out, and was happy to see it brought to the DS, but firstly, the game was 10(?) years old, and secondly, there were people who couldn't get into the game even back then. Nowdays, I pretty much am on the PSP almost exclusively, and as far as I'm concerned, not on the DS holds a candle to TWENY (I have it nicknamed The World wasn't Meant in honor of the webcomic), and Civilization Revolutions (now that is one of the BEST). For my part, I have never gotten into Ys or World of Warcraft (what's all dat aboot eh?)
