So what did everyone think of this year's Club Nintendo gold and elite status gifts?

This is the first year I was in the elite status or even gold for that matter. I had heard that elite members recieved Mario hats last year which I thought sounded really cool. I'd take a Mario hat. Instead this year, elite members can choose between a 3 poster set or a Majora's Mask original soundtrack.

I was extremely disappointed by these. I will never listen to that soundtrack more than once if I were to get it. I decided to get the posters to add to my game room decoration but I would have loved a Luigi hat which I had heard some people talk about.

Anyways, so yeah, what did everyone else think about this year? Were you as disappointed as me?

I thought it was terrible, i was hoping for something a bit more special. Last year's was boring to but the year before we had the pin set which was pretty good. Im already platinum for next year but whats the point if the rewards suck so bad?. Not only that but the normal rewards on the NA website are terrible compared to the UK site, they never add anything new. Most stuff is out of stock, there is hardly any reason to even add the codes anymore, i can see Nintendo getting rid of club nintendo soon.

I actually didn't get Platinum, which I have for the past couple years. I picked the Calender, which I think I'll like.

LOL, you guys are pathetic. Nintendo doesn't have to give you any free stuff for buying there games, and yet you have the cheek to complain that what they give you isn't good enough? It's free stuff they aren't gonna give you anything expensive, be thankful they give you anything at all, cause Microsoft and Sony don't.

Don't give me that

I already answered this

It's not the fact that you're getting something for free, it's the fact that Nintendo touts a prize at the end of the year that's going to be really great.

"Buy our stuff all year long and at the end of the end of the year we're going to give you something really great to show our appreciation."

I mean we're constantly told all year long it's going to be something so amazing that they'll let us know the second it's available and then we see this...

coffeecups.jpg

So I don't want to hear "oh it's for free" because it's not, they're not going out of their way to do this just because. This is a program that they've had as an incentive for buying their products retail and digitally. It's part of the deal.

We spent the money and we now see the prize

Well, you should be buying the games, for the games. If you're reason for buying the games is for some dumb prize at the end of the year then you're doing it wrong.

It would be a nice feature if I could save my elite status for next year and not choose a gift from this one.

I don't see how it is pathetic to want something good for taking the time to enter codes and fill out their surveys. At least something as exciting as other years but it is what it is I guess.

It takes 30 seconds of you're time, and it's optional. If you don't like the prizes stop doing the surveys.

So you agree with me that the prizes are lackluster, now we're getting somewhere

Nintendo offers these "prizes" as a way to offer incentives to buyers to

1. Buy their games new

2. Buy their games close to release

Nintendo is having it's userbase pay more then they have to for games because at the end of the year they'll be rewarded with something special which cannot be bought in stores.

That's why the whole "well it's free" argument is ridiculous

Nintendo is offering this "reward" for people who help them show off sales numbers and new games sales.

Heck, Nintendo even goes as far as to email updates on when this special "gift" will be ready

I was going to buy those games anyway, so the club nintendo stuff is just there as a bonus. The prizes weren't too great this year. One year, I got a sweet set of Zelda posters, didn't get platnum status last year, and I chose the sountrack this year. Could they have been better? Yeah, but I'm not concerned about it. I didn't buy the games to get a prize.

I like Club Nintendo and all, but never have I bought a game thinking "Ooh I can't wait for the 60 or whatever coins I'll get on my club nintendo account for this!" And Club Nintendo hasn't influenced me to buy any games; I buy them for the enjoyment of playing them. To me it sounds a little whiny to complain about the selection of free Nintendo swag (which you can't buy in stores) for your year-end gift. Free unless you consider filling out some 1-minute surveys a hefty cost.

I think it's safe to say that it's not that big of an incentive to really boost sales. And you're still arguing about something that's free which boggles my mind.

The prizes are subjective. I'm personally interested in the Majora's Mask CD.

i didnt like the selections much and was disappointed. It took me a long time that monday to finally select a game. I wish nintendo would give us a chance at that mario hat again. or better a luigi hat since this is the year of luigi. i would have picked either one of those for sure right away.

I got the 3 poster set : wind waker, pikmin 3 and luigi. Didn't get the soundtrack, since the ones I have get lost somewhere in the house.

I'm going to throw out a wild guess and say that no one has ever bought a Nintendo product for the sake of getting it's product code, or even considered Club Nintendo while deciding whether or not to buy a game.

The rewards aren't an incentive to buy more games, or buy them at a higher price. No one thinks that way. The rewards are a way to keep consumers happy, to make Nintendo as company seem likable, and to groom consumer loyalty. Of course, when the rewards suck, none of that is able to happen anyway.Â
