Is anyone here part of Smogon or Shoddy Battle? I've been off for about six months but was thinking about going back to it once Platinum comes out. Pokemon has such a deep level of strategy, but it seems a lot of pokemon players don't know about stuff like IVs, EVs, team building, breeding etc.
I don't normally frequent those places, but I browse them from time to time. I do participate in the competitive scene though, and I'm really looking forward to Platinum bringing an influx of players again.
I tried to get into competitive battling over the summer when I got Diamond. Took me a while to learn about IV's, EV's, and all that crap. After wasting so much time trying to trade, train, and battle I just got an Action Replay because it really is a pain in the ass to waste all of that time when you can get the results in a few minutes. But anyways I eventually gave up on it because it's hard to make a "good" team and all you see is the same set of pokemon and it got really annoying. A lot of people who play competitive Pokemon are complete jerks I've been on Smogon and all..
But idk I might "try" to get back into it once Platinum comes out if it has any extra features that will even be worth it.
I'm a member of Smogon, but I haven't been on or battled for months. I plan to battle again soon, but I'm too lazy to learn the new movesets/strategies that Platinum brought.
I go to the Pokemon League Union here at GS, which at one point was the best place on the web for Pokemon. I usually just spend my time looking for new strategies or trying to think of new teams from lesser used Pokemon. I've never gone to other forums specifically made for Pokemon though aside from PLU.
I do agree that a lot of Smogoners are really big jerks. It's what turned me off initially about the place. Some people go on about how godly they are--seriously it's JUST pokemon!
I never once used AR because I liked the time spent breeding/raising my pokes. It always felt fulfilling, but after 999+ hours spent on my file, my DS is seriously hurting these days.
