So I went to go and watch some tv yesterday morning when I woke up only to discover that the tv was completely shot. Now, this wasn't an entirely horrible thing because i had been wanting to buy a new one for a long time and I had kinda just been waiting on this one to go for that last sorta push out the door. Well I went to go get a new one, at the time having absolutely no intention of getting an HDTV (probably just some cheap sony tv that takes two full grown men to pack in the house lol) but things didn't quite go as planned. Needless to say I walked outta there with a widescreen lcd hdtv.

Now, I'm not really one to get myself in a knot over graphics or visuals or anything of that nature. But I gotta tell ya ... this has changed my life for the better ... I mean the difference is night and day. In all fairness, this probably has something to do with the fact that my old tv was made in the 80's I'm sure but thats besides the point here. To save you from more ranting I'll just cut straight to the point now. I decided, why not make a good thing look better? So I thought I'd come on here and check up about the Wii Component Cables ... I thought there might be something about them in the recommendation thread (for some reason I remember there used to a little blurb) but its not there anymore if it even ever was in the first place so I made this thread.

All I'm really wondering here is how much of a difference they make and whether or not its really worth the purchase.

IMO I saw no real difference, because it's only going from 480p to 480i, (unless you have the PAL version of the Wii). There's not much of a difference, it may get rid of some of the jaggies though :\. Sorry I don't actually have the compenent cables (I don't want to spend 50$ on it). :P.

The component cables are $30 on Nintendo's website, not $50, and 480p makes a huge difference on my 32" Samsung HD LCD. Colors are much brighter, text is easier to read, and everything is much clearer. And also contrary to what the guy above me said, aliasing is much more noticable, as are low-res textures and pixelation. By cleaning up the image, you see a lot more of the imperfections. But overall, the image looks a lot better. If he didn't see a difference, he must have a really crappy TV, or maybe his TV doesn't even support 480p (not all tvs with component actually do progressive scan).

Its not just going from 480i to 480p. Its also got a lot to do with overall clarity & the connections themselves. Even if technically it was still in 480i, the component would still look better on a newer TV.

Go with the component. You'll see the difference on an LCD HDTV for sure.

Everything is a little sharper and cleaner, but I think its just because you have 3 seperate video cables rather than the one yellow one. But overall, yeah, the Wii having component cables it almost a waste because its not even close to being a hi-def machine.

If your TV has component inputs, you should get the component cable. It makes a big difference.

Oh ya I forgot, I was testing on a projector >.>. Maybe I'll just buy the compenent cables for my 56" Samsung :).

Also to the guy who said it was 30$...I remember back a while ago when I got my Wii in December the cables were like 50$....I just checked, they are 30$, Sorry I'm so ignorant sometimes >.>.

If you have the connections for them then buy them (first party cables too, don't skimp)

There is no argument to NOT use them

thanks for all the advice ... it sounds like these'll be a pretty worthy purchase.  They'll make a pretty good pair if I buy Metroid Prime 3 with them too methinks.
