The Conduit is simply bringing some sort of attempt to match up to the XBOX 360/PS3 FPS titles, except it's being done on the wii.
Ever notice that after two hands-on GS AND from IGN that nothing was ever stated among enemy AI, the sound effects, or the music to the game? A likely (but not definite reason) is that they're unimpressed by it, or at least it didn't stand out to them.

yea i dont recall ign or gs commenting on either of those topics. but the hv guy in one hands-on said that the AI will be realistic. so im optimistic. i can care less about music in a fps -different story in my rpgs-. i keep that to a minimun as i like to hear the gunfire and explosions, not over radical techno music!
800p
A lot of shooters on 360 would be crap without the online modesChojutoYou mean Halo 3 don't you? lol
The Conduit is gonna be awesome and remember,it's still not finished.

qft...as everything they have showed is alpha
Everyone who says that one line "gameplay over graphics" can't support this game because the only thing they've talked about are the graphics and nothing more. Jaysonguy
Luckily, I also subscribe to "Sorbo over quality" and "bargain bins are awesome."
They tend to go hand-in-hand.
and why wouldnt try to boast their graphical prowess. that is a major selling point for them, why? b/c previous 3rd party wii games have been lax on what hv is trying to do. all the hands on and previews have show promising gameplay true to fps genre. but you want something new..well what kind of new are you looking for. the game is just a fps @ its core and @ the skin. its not a metroid w/ environment puzzles and different sorts of gadgetry are needed to advance. but the ase is a concept i havent seen done in a game. its not much but its an effort. sure to keep you on your toes. this just once again boils down to people never being satisfied. since day on, wii owners wanted core fps action..now its amongst us and its being loathed. well im not gonna shun this game. its a worthy effort that shouldnt be over looked.
so generic it may be...but do you see wealths of fps on wii? so generic, maybe...but calling it awful is just shallow
nothing original about it, its just bringing the scifi fps genre to the wii.. i wouldnt say it will be mediocre. it will probably be the best shooter on wii, and maybe average compared to games on other systemsSword-Demon
i think MOHH2 will beat it. 32 plyer online FTW

Too bad MoH's graphics are atrocious, AI is bad, and the presentation is awful. The only things it has going for it is 32 player online and sharp controls.
What do you mean by "special"?
If by special you mean some gimmick that makes it stand out from other shooters, then no, there's nothing special here.
But, that's the point. The conduit is supposed to be the first well made traditional shooter for the wii. Someone has to set the bar before others mess with it.
Its good for Wii owners that just have a Wii and not another platform where you can find a ton of high quality FPS.
The Conduit just looks really generic. I don't understand the hype. The only reason I would support the title is because HVS is putting effort into it, they just made it look really generic with its art direction.
The Conduit will be a generic shooter, but unique on the grounds of its controls (IR and customisable), that it's one of the best-looking Wii games, and that it's one of the few FPS games on Wii.
Considering how highly praised Halo and Oblivion are, I don't know whether generic will translate into mediocre scores. In any case, I'm still getting it.

Well when I was typing it I was just thinking of fps games in general, but Halo 3's better than a generic fps. It has co-op campaign and the story's mildly interesting (I think). The Conduit won't have splitscreen (or that's what I heard), so if the online fails, then the game will get boring very quickly. But if the online is good, then it'll last about as long as any other shooter would (well, almost as long, depending on the campaign mode).
*thinks back to all FPS games wii haves*
Far Cry Vengeance
REd Steel
Call of Duty 3
Medal of Honor: Vanguard
Medal of Honor heroes 2
...couple others.
My point is that even though Nintendo consoles certainly aren't known for FPS games, we've only had approximately 6 FPS titles altogether.
By the looks of it I'd say it'll be good in terms of gameplay, as for it being generic it looks that way but I'll withhold judgement.
*Risks flaming*
I actually think theres a chance that it might have a good story because what most don't know is that the developers actually researched a lot of conspiracy theories to draw inspiration for the story, the mentioned the conspiracy theories of David Icke and the illuminati, draconian aliens, etc. So sure if you look at it as Washington D.C invaded by bug-like aliens, of course it seems generic, but we really don't know a lot of the specifics of the story, so again I'm withholding any judgement in that category.

Eh, I just never cared for halo's story or single player, it's overrated if you ask me, the multiplayer's amazing though.Funny how people complain about generic FPS games but they always want the same in their main Nintendo franchises.TheLordMagnusso true.

The Nintendo franchises have good art direction.
Conduit does not. Thats why it looks generic .. it looks like Half-Life and Halo had an ugly love child.
This gameis still in pre-alpha.
This fact makes it not only hyper-critical, but also foolish to criticize things such as music, sounds, glitches, and even AI to an extent. I mean this game is not even due for another 5 months or so, and God knows that games always get delayed haha.
Looking at the core of this game, you have a solid, though seemingly generic, single player campaign. Seriously though, you cannot add too many gizmos to an fps and still have it be and fps, too much exploration and it becomes an fpa, too much upgrading and it becomes a fprpg. The adding of the ase mechanic seems solid for breaking away from the action sequences, and I applaud them for fully integrating that mechanic.
Controls look solid. Full custimization looks solid, and HV is not stupid, they used MP3 and MOHH2 as a template so those should be solid.
Graphically, this game looks pretty damn good, and anyone who says otherwise is judging that by other console or pc graphics. But for a Wii, those are nice graphics, and again, pre-alpha, they are adding to it all the time, even adding death animations and such.
As far as split screen goes, i think that it is a little bit of a problematic feature to put in on Wii due to the pointer, at least logically looking at it, I think it would loosen up the controls. HV did not want to tack it on, their choice, and I respect it, though I do see how that does suck for those that donot have online.
Online play again should be solid. They have said that they have been working hard on it for the last few months doing tests and running matches. Will it be 360 status, most likely not, but if I can get into a game with 11 other people (or whatever the final number ends up being) and have a lag free match, bring it on. I look at Mario Kart Wii here as a reference. Though the genre is totally different, there are 12 people racing lag free, for free, which is an accomplishment in my eyes.
Overall, I think that this game will be quality base line shooter (and general game) for Wii. HV has said time and time again how hard they are working to make a AAA title for the Wii. Simply put, the effort alone that they put into this game is worth your 50 dollars. This game being successful encourages HV as well as other third party devs to step it up.

If you're looking for a decent shooter, get a 360 or PS3. The Wii's control's are absolutely horrible for them. The only decent shooter availiable on the Wii is RE4. Which was better on gamecube anyway.
Of course The Conduit is going to be mediocre... like the majority of Wii games.Samox
how is analog better than IR? wii controls are perfect for shooters. im going to assume that youve never played a wii shooter, or youre a 360/ps3 fanboy

have to agree with sword demon here, there is no way that you can honestly say that the Wii's control scheme sucks for fps. It is amazing for it, the same way a mouse is.
I call ignorance and fanboyishness on Samox's response, though I will say that the Wii has not been taken advantage of to date in the fps genre, with a couple exceptions.
