I don't know if that's the proper term to be using with the Metroid series, first of all. Remember that before Metroid Fusion and Prime, Samus had been M.I.A. for well over a gen, and even since then, it's only been a couple games a system, which is reasonable by today's standards.
As for the StarFox series, Nintendo did have other developers working on the series last gen in Rare and Namco, and the two developers did aim to take the series in a more "personal" direction. Despite that, critical and fan response to this wasn't always great. Heck, most StarFox fans I've come across recently insist that going back to strictly being a rail-shooter is the best thing for the series, and while I personally don't think that's the best direction for the series, I can't say I'm crazy about seeing a FPS in the StarFox universe, either.
I think the StarFox series is in limbo in terms of figuring out what identity it should have, and it doesn't help that so many people want to see the series be so many different things. If anything, given the circumstances behind all of this, I wouldn't be shocked or disappointed to see the series take a leave of absense similar to what Metroid did after Super Metroid, so it can hopefully find the direction it needs to go in.
I think nintendo should handle the next star fox themselves since the last few outings which were developed by other companies didnt turn out so well. Its time nintendo takes back the reigns so they can finally put this franchise back on track instead of pawning it off on another dev.
First of all, Nintendo hasn't been "whoring out" Samus. Other M is the second Metroid Game being made for the Wii, unless you count the Prime Trilogy (which you shouldn't).
Second of all, as much as I'd kill for a new Star Fox game, I'm kind of glad that Nintendo has deicded not to "whore out" many of their secondary franchises this generation *coughMarioPartycough* and only creates new games when they decide it's appropriate. I always thought Star Fox would be a natural fit on the Wii, but I only want Nintendo to make the game if they can dedicate the development resources toward it (or if another company can really make it quality).
Namco actually made Star Fox Assault for the GameCube, which was a decent but flawed game.
I'd still love to see it at E3 though, Nintendo. *salivates at the idea of Star Fox + MotionPlus*
omg, everyone in the world is "whoring" out what they make money off of right now. Not just nintendo. Look at the movie industry, music, tv. We as consumers in the entertainment industry are asking for more and more or what we like. So nintendo 'whoring out Mario or Samus is nothing new. Step back and look around, look at the COD series. 7 games in as many years, how many Metriod games have we got in the last 7 years??? Answer, 2 for GC, 1 for Wii( with a remake trilogy), one for DS and one coming soon for Wii.da_chublol we have r winner
I'm not really sure that is what Nintendo is doing with the Metroid series. After all Nintendo has put the series in the fantastic (if unproven) hands of Retro and now they put series in the incredibly proven hands of Team Ninja and working together with them on it.

This sums up my thoughts exactly.
I'd like another rail shooter for Star Fox. I'm not saying that is what it should be, but the first level in Star Fox Assault was kickass.I don't know if that's the proper term to be using with the Metroid series, first of all.
