is it possible for an update to create an option to make it stay?Hiltz01
I'd say yes. Stuff like that is more firmware related, than hardware. They've programmed it to turn off and on at certain times. A little rewritting to the firmware would fix it. There must be a reason why it turns off, though. I doubt Nintendo did it like this for the heck of it.
yeh, but the reason could just be that they dont want complaints 1 year after realise because the LED has died. I just think that should be our choice...Hiltz01
LEDs last for years, though. I guess it'd be different if it was on constantly, everyday. Then it'd probably burn out.I just want it on during gameplay.Although that may be constantly for some of you :P, that's not too frequently for me.
Nintendo would probably make a killing if they put it up for sale at the store...l8bitz
You mean if they sold that update? HA, they wouldn't make any money from that! Nobody is going to pay for an update that doesn't do anything except for make the Wii look a little bit cooler.

You'd be surprised.

Its LED... It wont die. Unless the console dies.. LEDs can't burn out. They don't generate heat. That rules your suggestion out.. so..

No, I'm pretty sure they do deteriorate over time. Nothing lasts forever.

They last for years on end, but they're not infinite. Something tells me it wont matter whether or not if my Wii lights in in 10+ years, though :D.
Hey just to get this straight, the Blue LED only comes on when you turn on the console and when you recieve a message during standby mode, right? It doesn't come on when you insert a disc or surf the News Channel. Right or wrong?EuqirneSelbor
I think it does come on if you insert a disc, as long as the console is off. I don't know about if it's on,I can't remember. If you do the email trick, I think you have to stay connected to the internet the whole time. Plus, it stays on even when the Wiiis powered off. I'd rather the console getsome rest :D (it'll need it).
Interesting, I didn't know you could insert a disc while the console was off :) That's kind of wierd though, it lights up when off but not when on. Hmm....EuqirneSelbor
If the console is already off, just slowly slide the disc into the tray and it'll detect it and take it in.
LEDs have an extremely long life span. One manufacturer has calculated the ETTF (Estimated Time To Failure) for their LEDs to be between 100,000 and 1,000,000 hours. Fluorescent tubes typically are rated at about 10,000 hours, and incandescent light bulbs at 1,000-2,000 hours.
