so if I would buy the 3ds today and get the 20 free games at best buy which they have a policy of having a refund if the price was decreased 30 days.

would that mean that I would not only bought the 3ds at 170$ but also get the 20 free games exclusively for the one's who bought it at full?

I think it would work

This is funny and shocking, both at the same time. People now are trying to do tricks and fraud to get the 20 games. I am almost sure that trick wont work.

You can try, but I'm sure retailers won't be honoring the price drop if you buy it now - price protection is for when you buy an item and it later goes on sale or drops in price when you have no knowledge of it.

For something as big as an $80 drop announced weeks in advance, count on altered SKUs or a strict no-price protection policy.

edit - I've seen photos of the $169.99 price at Costcos in Canada already, though. Not sure if it's the same in the US, but that way you don't have to deal with maybe getting a discount later on. And it makes sense, too - most retailers are just going to be sitting on 3DS hardware for the next two weeks as no one who's not completely ignorant is actually going to buy one until then.

no it wouldn't work because first of all you need to download the games on the 3DS and the games release early September, second of all it wouldn't work because if you refunded your 3DS and buy the $170 one you wouldn't have your old one with the games.

This sounds dishonest, and since it's well known the price is dropping on August 12th, they'd likely not honor it. It's not like you bought it and suddenly, without warning, the price dropped $80. You'd have plenty of foreknowledge about it and bought anyway.

This sounds like something my dad would do, and quite honestly, none of his "ideas" work.

The people saying this won't work don't work in retail/don't know how retail works and/or are dissatisfied that they didn't think of this.

Care to explain? Since you know everything about it...

I actually don't think it's going to work either. (But maybe mister-i-know-more-than-you-and-you'r-not-smart-enoughcan explain?)

I agree. The only reason we all know about this price drop is because we post on a video game forum. It would not be common knowledge for most people that the price is going to drop. I don't see why the stores refund policy would not apply. It's not like they are losing any money on those 20 games and since they are digital downloads it's not really hurting nintendo either.

I think what you want to do is have them refund the difference. From reading the policy, it sounds like if there's a price drop within 14 or 30 days of purchase, they refund you whatever the price drop is. I don't think there's a stipulation that says that if the coming price drop has been announced in advance, that you can't use it. Unless there's some stipulation that says something about the price being announced beforehand, I don't think it matters. I've made arrangements to purchase a 3DS used relative to its forthcoming price point, but up until that point, I was planning to do this myself.

Try Costco if you were going to pay more than $170CDN used - a lot of people have reported their local Costcos already knocking the price down to $169.99 and I've seen photos of the displays (all in Ontario, but I'd imagine it would be the same out west). Makes sense, as stores will just be sitting on unsold 3DS stock until the 12th anyway and if the SKU is the same, they'll just be dishing out price protection refunds.
