I have had it with shooters, especially on rails. I wnat freedom in my games, not to be handheld. They should've marketed it better, you know a little advertising on places other than ign and gamespot, maybe say somthing like "Lieutenant Dan missn an awrm now? No worries DS:Extraction does the walking for you! Lieutenant Dan YOU GOT NEW LEGS!"

Make a better game, and it's sales won't bomb. These 3rd party developers seem to be saying, "buy game X, that isn't that great, and we might make game Y, that will be great." If the down-payment for a great 3rd party game is buying a not-so-great 'test' game, I'll just save my money for Nintendo.

I already bought this long ago for the 360 so have no interest in getting it for Wii. Perhaps that's the thing with the Wii, most "serious" gamers have more than one console and will pick up titles according to which platform is most appropriate. Less serious gamers may simply have no interest in these types of games, seeing them as too violent or unsuitable for their children or whatever. Who knows.

I myself, while not a great fan of FPS and shooter games, would have to be convinced that the Wii version has superior features and gameplay compared to the 360/PS3 version before I'd get it (not to mention being released at the same time as the other platforms - not a year later). Never mind graphics etc. the Wii has got to focus on delivering awesome controls and excellent gameplay. I'm not sure that they managed it here, what with it being on rails.

I like your style buddy ;)

If I didn't already own all three games I would go do it right now because of your zeal and positive attitude. Something sorely missed on these forums. However I'm already on board with the support of quality third person Wii titles and yes, Dead Space is excellent and many people should go buy it!

Let's look at this from another Wii owner's point of view (not mine):

Go buy Chicken Shoot! It's so fun and many Wii owners should buy it!

...

Did that convince you?

Well, why would you ever think that people who don't care about rail-shooters should go and buy this game? Because, just so you know, most Wii owners are either sick of rail-shooters, or never cared about them to begin with.

This game deserves the poor sales it gets. EA didn't read the audience properly and it's nobody's fault but their own. Absolutelynobodyasked for Dead Space on rails.

stupid EA. They should realize that the game is on-rails that's why it tanked. Seriously, i'll never pay $50 for an on-rails experience. On-rail shooters were designed for arcades and belong to arcades. You know what if this wan't an on-rail shooter, this would have slapped the DS fans on their faces especially those who don't own a wii. Imagine if this were a third person shooter, oh how great it would be. It would be able to rival the original DS. Also, the fact that this is exclusive to the wii (no version of Dead Space), accounts for the small sales.

i don't want this game even if it costs less, i have still a almost unplayed dead space on ps3 laying around , just don't have the time to play it yet , just the simple fact it's on rails made me decide in the early development stage not to buy this

Yeah, they over-saturated the on rails market for the Wii. Seemed like fun at first, until the millionth on rails game was announced. What do they expect?

I do, am hoping that people are going all crazy here only to be contradicted by next month's numbers.

aransom

Exactly. Once again EA assumes they know what Wii owners want ... and once again, wrong. It's become silly at how terrible a lot of the large game companies are doing with the Wii - and amazing to see how out of touch they are with a huge % of the gaming market.

I bought it more for the story than the gameplay. I had been researching it for a while, and one day I found out it was on-rails, which was a bit of a turn-off, but I still bought it and have been enjoying it.

Nintendo games usually sell more over there lifetime. I dont EVER trust release sells for games on the Wii just cause Wii owners are very sceptikal of buying games that arent tested (I blame it on Red Steel).

I would wait at least another to month to come to the conclusion whether or not it bombed, Wii games usually have legs. Five days of sales isn't really showing much other than people didn't want to pay full price at launch, which isn't surprising, it came across as a "cool but don't need it right now" type of game which would be different it was a proper sequel.

Does it really bother you that much that you don't have the freedom to move a character around with a freakin control stick? I don't consider half the people on here real gamers. Im a real gamer, I have supported EVERYTHING that has come out and have enjoyed it very much. I support every type of genre because I can appreciate all the differences in each one. We would probably get more games if more people bought them but the only thing yall seem to do is just complain, complain, complain.

I agree with newman. Let everyone buy what they want. Don't force anything down people's throats. It's at times like this that Nintendo needs a demo service. That way you could at least try it out, which seems to be the problem here, as opposed to hoping for the best. Videos, screens, and preview's only can go so far. You must try the game beforehand. Dead Space is an amazing game. Period. I'm not going to whine about how it should've been. I'm enjoying it for what it is. If you don't like rail shooters, fine by me, but you are missing a great experience. It's like saying you won't play Red Steel 2 because there is no blood. Wait a minute...

Wait, did you just insult someone's taste in games? People should be allowed to buy whatever the hell they want. You cant force someone to buy something you like just because YOU think it is a good game. People have standards and you should learn to deal with that. You can be a real gamer without buying EVERY game that comes out for your console. I know that I am not very interested in Dead Space and I am not willing to pay $50 for an on-rails experience, unless I'm going to Six Flags. Plus, the on-rails shooter market is starting to become a saturated. On-rails shooters belong in arcades not as one of the primary genres of a console. Plus the game does not interest me all that much anyway, I will consider purchasing it when it goes to around $30 or $20. Developers need to stop with all these darn "test" games and just bring out some good games already.

I'm glad you're doing well enough to buy every game, but those of us who don't have unlimited resources have to be picky with what we spend on video games.

It's called consumer freedom. Perhaps it's something you need to learn a bit more about before trying to put down people for not buying a video game. If someone wants to be picky about what they buy, especially when it concerns their own personal entertainment, they have EVERY right to be. Having personal taste when it comes to video games doesn't make you any less of a real gamer; it's just makes you a human being who is expressing yourself and supports what what you like. Quite frankly, I could give you a few good reasons why I didn't buy this game or any other game I haven't purchased, but the most important reason I didn't get it and won't be getting it anytime soon is because I'm not interested in it. That's all that matters here and with ANY other game.

What bob_newman said hit the nail directly on the head from the get-go and hammered the most important message of this thread home very well. We have brains of our own, and we can do without people trying to tell us what to buy just because they think it deserves better. Man, it feels like I've been finding myself saying something like this ALL YEAR on this board... :P

First off, no I won't buy it... yet. It will be $20-30 in a few months I'll get it then if I still want it. And if the bad sales mean they won't make a sequel, that's fine... this game should have been a sequel on a different system anyhow where these types of games sell.

Hey how about this: Half of yall are just a bunch of picky people who probably don't like nothing but first/third person shooting games and complain when you don't get what you want.

You assume people don't like this game because it's on rails versus being an FPS/3rdPS. Guess what... some people don't like ANY of that stuff. Does it really bother you that much that some people don't like shooting games of any type? Oh yeah, and buying every game in every genre doesn't make you a "real" gamer, it only makes you a rich one. And a little snobby, it seems, too (no offense).

The graphics on the Wii are poor. The games on the 360 look amazing and they worth the money.Maybe i will buy Dead Space Extraction used for 20 euro.

Eh, it's not something I feel strongly about buying, especially this time of year in this economy. I'll get it after it drops in price to $20-$30.

To be honest, I think Dead Space E looks great but it's tough to pay $50 for a rail-shooter that'll only last a handful of hours with little to no replay value. It's a great game to pick up at $30 or $20 though.

If Extraction was a third person survival horror game like the original, I would buy it. But rail shooters just don't interest me. It sucks becuase I really want to support good third party games on the Wii. Maybe I'll buy Little King's Story sometime, though.

He should've read my post. I can count the number of Pure shooter games I like to play on 1 finger.

The wii exclusive Dead Space Extraction sales bombed. It sold only 9300 copies in 5 days. THATS SAD. Its such a good game. WII OWNERS!!! YOU NEED TO GO BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, we need to support the consoles few good 3rd party titles the wii has if we want more. SERIOUSLY!!!! Go buy Dead Space Extraction, House of the Dead:Overkill, and MAD WOLRD!!!!!!!!!!

bob_newman

I like your style buddy ;)

If I didn't already own all three games I would go do it right now because of your zeal and positive attitude. Something sorely missed on these forums. However I'm already on board with the support of quality third person Wii titles and yes, Dead Space is excellent and many people should go buy it!

Let's look at this from another Wii owner's point of view (not mine):

Go buy Chicken Shoot! It's so fun and many Wii owners should buy it!

...

Did that convince you?

Well, why would you ever think that people who don't care about rail-shooters should go and buy this game? Because, just so you know, mostWii owners are either sick of rail-shooters, or never cared about them to begin with.

This game deserves the poor sales it gets. EA didn't read the audience properly and it's nobody's fault but their own. Absolutelynobodyasked for Dead Space on rails.

A quality game is a quality game. Regardless of weather you or anybody wants it to be a certain way. To wish for disaster to EA and not recognize what great effort did go into at least the on rails version of their Dead Space franchise is just pitiful. I'm not saying you have to like or play the game (note that I also would have SERIOUSLY preferred a non-on rails game), but given that it is one damn fine piece of software then you should at least...as a gaming fan? Or....a Wii fan of some sort? Yes? Am I wrong here?....give them what credit they deserve and for their hard work let the people who are willing to play and enjoy that have that. Don't wish and congratulate disaster. That's immature.

I think it's stupendously absurd to assume thatnobody wanted DS on rails. That's an assinine and presumptuous comment to make. And heck even though I didn't want it on rails myself...I sure as HELL love Extraction ;) What's wrong with a little surprise now and then. I certainly was.

Kudos to EA for making a game that for all intents and purposes shouldn't have worked, but man does it ever!!!!!!!! lol(check any reviews lately?)

How did you handle paying the same price for games when 360 graphics didn't exist?

The problem is everybody interprets quality differently, and I don't see a great effort here. A great effort would have gone the extra step to allow freedom of movement. A great effort would have given you more than 6 hours of game play (and to make it worse, some of that game play isn't game play at all -- it's like watching an extended cut scene). I'm certain some people worked very hard on the title, but it obviously wasn't many compared to other games.

That doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't enjoy the game though. There are many "B" productions I enjoy immensely.

Sales pretty much prove nobody wanted it. Maybe not litterally, but less than 9000 sales for the opening week indicates a general lack of interest. No doubt that general lack of interest isa result ofthe gamebeing on rails. EA seemed more interested in making a movie than a game and they are paying the price for that. Again, if you enjoyed it, I'm glad you got the experience but you are certainly not in the majority.
