Bikes ruined Mario Kart?

The point of Mario Kart was to use karts, not bikes.

Now, in Mario Kart Wii, they've added bikes.

Bikes go faster than cars, and do wheelies instead of drifts.

Also... Bikes don't have steering wheels. o.o

What do you think?

I love the bikes it gave the game a little bit of a revival in my opinion plus the amazing new courses. They just seem more suited for the bikes. Karts, bikes, it's all the same you race both.

Before I got the game I hated the fact that they added them in there... I was so mad I wouldnt have even gotten the game just because of it. Well I got it for my birthday even though I didnt ask for it. Once I tried it out I loved it, I like the bikes more than the karts.

Bikes are what sold me on MKWii.

The competition is what ruined my experience. Rubber Band AI TM(?) and delay-based online race positioning turned me off the idea that I was racing and not just hoping my copy of the game was telling me the truth when it showed me in first place.

Worrying about a video game failing is not fun.

I love the bikes, that's all I use (pretty much). Personally my favourite part of the game is the GCN controller (I use it for SSBB too lol).

It didn't "ruin" it, but it made me feel unsure as to why I would select one over the other... Also I wish the bikes had two levels of boost like the karts.

Bikes were a genius addition. I use them far more than karts because you do more with them (any chance you get do a pop-a-wheelie). It just provides a more harcore experience. I think that the karts cater more to beginers then you move on to the bikes when you get really good. The tracks in this game are the best designed yet too! I love this game

By the way

Wii mote and nunchuck= Best way to play

Wii Wheel= second best way to play

Gamecube= worst way by far (doing tricks and Pop-a-wheelies are a pain because you have to take your thumb off the analogue stick to hit the Dpad)

I don't think anything ruined Mario Kart Wii.... Bikes could have been terrible, but Nintendo did a great job of balancing them with the karts.

Yep, bikes did ruin MKW, now everyone online uses bikes and karts are all but gone. Really makes the series feel like it's not going in the direction it used to.

I still don't understand why so many people use bikes. I use Yoshi and a standard kart most of the time, and I dominate offline and do just fine online. It's not like using a bike really gives that much of an advantage.

I have very mixed opinions. : P

I do like bikes, but it does take away from the name 'Mario Kart'.

It should be Mario Racing now, or something.

The simple fact is that bikes are much better. They have inward drift which is better then the gold mini turbo and then they also have wheelies which make them win on courses that end in a straightaway.

The problem is that the bike has 2 big advantages while the kart only has 1, not to mention one or both of the bikes' advantages are better then the karts'.

Karts, even the smaller ones, can also push bikes around quite a bit. This makes a huge difference on tracks with pits. Bikes also have the disadvantage of being vulnerable to a mere bump during wheelies. Another bike disadvantage is that drafting a biker during a wheelie is very easy, while a kart could simply move slightly back and forth to avoid drafters. If you're trailing someone doing a wheelie, whether you're in a bike or kart, you can simply draft and bump them to make them nearly stop.

I suppose it interferes with the novelty of the title Mario KART however I do regard it as a welcome addition. Nintendo just messed up while trying to balance out the pros and cons of Karts and Bikes.

Drafting is hard to do since they will be doing a wheelie so they will be going faster than you. The bump thing is a disadvantage though as I said the wheelie makes you go faster so you have to be right behind them when they do the wheelie to hit them or be in front of them. The weight and tracks with pit thing I will give you though.

I just wish that they could seperate between karts and bikes online. If they did that, I would be happy. I'm a kart racer, and always will be, but it sucks when someone on a bike in just poping wheelies all the time in first place. Kart racers have no chance.

Not true. Now if a biker is better at the game than you in every way, then you don't stand a chance. But that'd also be true if he were using a kart. (This happens to me all the time, by the way, so I'm not trying to be condescending here.) There are certain situations where you don't stand a chance, such as when you're trailing the biker on the final straightaway with no good weapons, but your job is to avoid that situation in the first place.

Bikes doing wheelies go a LITTLE faster but not so fast you can't draft behind them, which you can easily. Besides, you would most likely draft on accident than on purpose!

I believe that bikes were an excellent addition to the entire Mario Kart franchise. They balance out the karts very well, and offer more variety for different players' styles. Also, the Wii Wheel is a great way to control any and every vehicle in the game.

No. I think the wheelie speed burst adds an entirely new element of strategy to the game, and partially in thanks to bikes we have the deepest Mario Kart title yet.

I believe it was nice of them to add it. Whats the point of making new titles when everything is just gonna be the same? They would obviously add in more things to keep people interested in it. There must be people who don't like the idea but they can't spend so much time to satisfy everyone.

I hate bikes with a passion, but I don't think they ruined the game.
To me, Nintendo could've balanced them more with karts because in a kart vs. bike race, the bike user is going to win because of the wheelie. :s

But that's my two cents if you call it that.

I don't think they did. I think that they added more depth. I mean really, they had to add something new to Mario Kart otherwise it would just be the same game over and over again.

I side with this fellow. I welcomed the bikes with opened arms. Great new addition.

To me what ruined the game was that they took away the character specific items, I miss using the chain chomp.:(

This is absolutely correct in my opinion. I love the bikes but truth is they are way better than Karts, most Kart-only users have little chance of beating good bike users online. I hope they balance them more for the next game of the series.

bikes didnt ruin mario kart wii because after 6 games in the series, it was time for variety and the bikes and the wii wheel gave just that to the mario kart series.
