There are some early hands-on impressions here:

http://wii.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=9870

One troubling quote that stood out to me is:

"The majority of the minis we've seen, thus far, require you to hold the Wii-mote horizontally (like an NES controller) and don't even utilize the motion capabilities of the remote, which sort of baffles us."

Add to that some of the wii-mote controls are unresponsive and things don't seem so great for Mario Party 8. At least not as great as you'd think they'd be.

After the endless barrage of mini-game collection from Sonic to Monkey Ball I figured Nintendo would nail the ultimate party game with pitch perfect motion controls and innovation. I guess not. At least that's not what early signs are pioining too.

well ... you could limit yourself to the motion-sensing for making mini games like many others, probably like warioware ... than you have 6 axis, and you always repeat the same movement for many games ... using the habitual button games + motion, i think it's really a stonger idea

Linkified!

Anyways, this Mario Party does seem kind of a let down, based on both early impressions and some reviews. Oh well... guess that's one less game for me to pick up next week.

I usually wait to decide whether a game is screwed up or not until I have a chance to play it.

How about the Gamepro review that gave it a 4.5 out of 5

Also Nintendo Power reviewed it and I think they gave it a 7.5 out of 10

Those are pretty good reviews so far

Gamepro's review was terrible. If you read the written part, you'd understand it's a terribly written review. In fact, it's mostly negative, which is surprising since they gave it a 90% score... And as for Nintendo Power, well, they generally rate HIGH, so the points of that review should be scaled down.

I beg to differ, my friend, I am a frewuent subscriber to Nintendo Power, and can assure you that, surprisingly, a majority of the game they review recieve crap reviews and low scores. Though 7.5/10 isn't exactly a good score. Its really a win or loss situation.

I agree, I too am a NP subscriber, and they don't give goods scored left and right whit out merit, they actually give pretty good reviews without hyping the game for being on a Nintendo console.

See, that is a matter of opinion, as for my self, I enjoyed all the ones for N64. Have to admit that I have yet to play the GCN ones, but I always thought they were good. About the only game my girlfriend is looking forward too for Wii. So, I guess we both think they have always been good, hope that clears my stance on that issue. Also, since it sells rather well, my guess is that a lot of people think so as well, of course I could be wrong, even about the whole 'This game sells a lot.'

well... they were never amazing games but they were always fun (if you played them with at least 2 other freinds), and I thought the first 2 were great, although the series pretty much went downhill after the 64 titles.

I hate it when people say games are gonna be bad when they haven't even tried it.
