I bought Scarface for the Wii a few days ago. I switched the Wii on and it was on the main screen screen when I put the disc in. I waited for a moment and no picture came up. So I clicked on to the game channel and this message came up saying "initiating update" then I had to wait about 2 minutes while my Wii updated itself. But once it had updated I went back to the main screen and checked everything and nothing is different. Has this happened to anyone else either with Scarface or with a different game? BTW, before I put the game in I hadn't updated my Wii before as I haven't taken it online yet.
It has been mentioned by other users that Paper Mario did the same thing. From what I've read, the game disks have updates to them, just like you would get them from on-line. We also had this happen on PS3 with Motorstorm. Some people that imported Mario Strikers Charged (whether legal or illegal) from Europe to play in a NTSC console, ended up with bricked Wii's, which I read they were able to fix. I have yet to get this game now that it is a NTSC game.
Nintendo must've started shipping wiis with updates, because when I went online the first time, I didn't see any update, and I even bought super paper mario.
same thing happened to me when i got RE4: Wii Edition, the newer games update the latest thing if you havent already or you dont have internet i think.
