Somebody told me that fire emblem is exactly like advance wars. I am tired of advance wars, I only enjoyed the first one the most after that I got bored of them. What is difference between both games?

Well, other than both being a turn based strategy game, the similarites really end there. Fire Emblem is more focused on the story, characters and is more RPG than Advance Wars. You level your units in battle and carry them over from one to another unlike Advance Wars; and the off chance your unit does die you lose him/her for the rest of the game as if they actually did die.

Difference is that Fire Emblem is 1,000X better than Advance Wars imo. oh and you can make more units in AW. In FE you only get units throughout story and if they die they are gone.

Well one of the obvious differences is that advance wars is military and fire emblem is well, the opposite.

Fire Emblem is set in a fantasy world and Advance Wars is set in the future ( duh-huh ). But a real difference is that Fire Emblem is more of an RPg than a strategy game and Advance Wars is more likely to be considered a stradegy game.

Shadow Dragon rocks. Rocks so much, I find it better than Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, and I loved that game.

Differences:

  • FE you can win battles by level grinding. In AW there is no level grinding -- you must use strategy to win.
  • FE focuses on buying/equipping weapons for individual characters and item management. In AW there is no equipment/items. Instead you focus on capturing bases, creating units, and supplying units.
  • FE storyline uses a serious tone and typical RPG themes. AW storyline is more modern and a lot more corny .
  • FE characters all have their own backstory and you care what happens to all of them. AW characters are generic cannon fodder (except the COs, but they are corny caricatures).
  • FE you follow a linear storyline. AW has more game modes (campaign mode + single battle map modes).
  • FE is single player. AW has multi-player modes.

Personally, I like AW a little more than FE because AW cuts out level grinding. (Note, I realize you can level up the COs' special powers in Dual Strike but that is not the same thing as the level grinding that is used in FE - and you also have the option of turning off special powers in AWDS). I like starting from scratch every battle and relying on strategy to win.

FE definitely has a better storyline and characters. It is also a fun game and does require some strategy to win (strategy is especially important when you are trying to recruit new characters into your party-when you first encounter them they will usually be enemies on the battlefield and if you want them in your party you have to figure out which party member you should send to talk to them and convince them to join your side - you must be really careful with this because due to automatic counterattacks it is very easy to kill them while you are trying to get close enough to talk them and if you kill them they obviously won't be able to join your team). So if you're bored with AW, and you don't mind games that focus on item/equipment management and level grinding, then you should definitely try out FE.

BTW if you really want to play the best SRPG that the DS offers then you should buy Disgaea DS.

Honestly, Do you care so much for ratings? They are just opinions, critics are humans too. y`know. I just found a lot of underrated games to be great, custom robo arena, megaman sf3... Some will say FE is better and others will say AW is better. GS reviewer is just one of these persons that say AW is better.

Honestly, every site I've been to (including IGN, GameSpy, and 1up) ranks Advance Wars over Fire Emblem, but I think it purely comes down to replay. While AW gives you mutliplayer, challenges, and a map editor, Fire Emblem is really just the main game.

Personally, I love them both. I'd love to see another FE game on the DS.
