Can anyone tell me if, with the release of the 3DS, DS games will cease to be made? I just got a DS iXL for Christmas. I really can't afford to buy a new system if they quit making games to play on the DS iXL! Any info would be great!

It's been said that the DS will continue after the release of the 3DS. For how long? I'm guessing it'll be like the GBA after the release of the DS.

Some will be made but they won't be huge hits since all attention will be shifted to the next generation of handhelds, a new Kirby game is promised though.

I personally think that we'll have a couple of years before "everyone" discontinues regular ds games. Not too worried. There are a LOT of games out there I haven't played yet. They're not going to disappear (they're still selling used GBA games).

Didn't Nintendo bring out a 3D system about 30 years ago? Didn't it tank?

3D has been around the movies since the 50s - but flatscreen movies are STILL the norm.

Truth is, no one knows the future - that's why it's called "the future". Will the new system tank? Will it actually work? Who knows?

But my best guess is that all the gaming companies will be watching to see what happens, but they will still be making non-3D for a couple of years.

Thanks that was what I was hoping! Although hopefully that law doesn't pass that prevents the sale of used games!

I do not think it would take much of a prophet to predict that the 3DS will not tank ;)

I think DS games will still be available for a year to year and a half after the 3DS launch.

The 3DS will not be another Virtual Boy. The VB sealed its fate from the day it was designed. It was cumbersome to use, displayed in only red and black, had a pathetic line up (don't judge 3DS's launch line up just yet!), and wasn't that powerful graphically. The 3DS is in full color, much more powerful than the DS and PSP, has glassless 3D that can be turned off by those that don't want it, and is build around an already proven handheld design, the DS. It also adds an analogue stick, accelerometer and gyroscope features, 3D camera capability and a wealth of new online features. Rest assured, it will not be another Virtual Boy. If you're waiting on a 3DS for better games, that's understandable, but if you're waiting to see if it becomes another Virtual Boy, well, that's just silly.

JPL up there make a point very well. I am not some Nintendo fanboy who thinks that Nintendo can do no wrong (fanboy as charged but not a blind one ;) I had a Power Glove as a kid. I know Nintendo can tank on occassion. But the 3DS is not going to be like the Virtual Boy (my younger brother had that too). This is basically a DS with improved everything and 3D thrown in on top. It will sell like crazy.
