I believed the DS can pull off N64 quality graphics, but obviously I was mistaken. :( My first game was Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and I was really disappointed by the low-res, bulky and pixelated environment, it looks far worse than any PSone game. At least N64 used a blur effect that filtered the graphics and removed those god-awful pixels thus made games look more smooth, but unfortunately this is not the case with the DS. You get to witness some huge low-res pixels that made my eyes cry. How can people compare the graphic to the N64 ones? I think I won't survive trying to play Mario64 DS, it was my favorite N64 game and I am afraid I will be very dissapointed.

...the DSi-only games are the only games that use the DSi's power.

Older games... stay the same.

Mario 64 is a mixed bag on DS. The character models are technically better, less blocky in design. But the textures are a mess.

I play games for gameplay and gameplay only. No matter how pretty the game is, if gameplay is boring, then graphics can do nothing to save it. With the exception of pixelation(which I can ignore), I'm quite pleased with the DS's graphics since they get the job done and devs have done a good job with coming up with art styles that hide some of it's technical flaws. They're good enough so that they don't get in the way and that's all that matters.

P.S. 3D games are really the only ones with the problem. 2D games look exellent.

There are two problems here.

1: You are playing a DS game not a DSi exclusive game. We can't judge the slightly better hardware on the DSi before we get DSi exclusive games which will probably be years away. Another way could be if a dev makes a very high quality DSiWare game but it's going to be really hard to know if it couldn't be done as a original DS game.

2: People are vastly overrating the hardware in the DSi. Games might look slightly better on the DSi than the DSL or DSP in theory but so far we don't know if the better hardware is even going to be used in games.

However graphics looks good enough on the DS and the future DSi games so I'm not complaining.

why the hell did you think the DSi would have better graphics, specially on "old" DS games? it's like hoping that when you put soulcalibur II on your PS3, it'll run like soulcalibur IV --'

Sorry that you're disappointed, but I'm not sure where you got the idea that the DSi had the capability to improve the graphics of old DS games. With the slightly larger screen, it's possible that some things could look worse.

If you bought a handheld for teh grapix, you are doing it wrong. By the way, this thread is almost sign-worthy. :P
