since Donkey Kong Country Returns is coming out this year I think it would be a very good idea for nintendo to release Konkey Knog 64 on the VC to help hype the release, similar to what they did with SSB. What are the odds of this happening? are there any legal or liscencing issues involved? (being from Rare and all) and just to clarrify, have all 3 DKC games had a VC release?

Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 and 3 have all been released on the VC. I would download DK 64 if it were on the VC.

Same. I've been waiting for it for a while. I'm wondering if it'll ever come.

They didn't release SSB until at least a year after Brawl came out. They did release Metroid and Super Metroid right before Metroid Prime 3 and Mario 3 right before Mario Galaxy so they could do that. They haven't done it with a bunch of other games though so who knows. There is no reason they couldn't though. I remember the only problem with it before was that it was an expansion pack only game and people weren't sure if the VC could do that but they released Majora's Mask and that worked fine so I guess it's all good and Rare doesn't own the rights to the Donkey Kong games. Although Diddy Kong Racing may never come out as it has Banjo and Conker in it.

what does this konkey knog you speak of have to do with DKC? lol but even still DK64 is a completely different type of game than the 3 DKC's that yes, are on VC already.

DK64 really isn't that good. I don't unerstand the love it gets. I found it extremely boring with WAY too many things to collect.

same here, i didn't enjoy it very much either but it seems most people adore it, i liked Banjo Kazooie but DK64 was a collect-a-thon on a whole different level and its hard for me to even enjoy it to this day (Come on now,There's a reason when funcoland was around that there were piles of yellow DK64 carts). Im glad Donkey Kong Country returns seems to be changing things up just enough to make it stand apart from the oringal series.

But regardless it seems if they were to release it on the VC, doing it around DKCR debut would be the most logical choice and if it doesn't well who knows if it will ever come.

Its definitely not the best game, but its not too bad if you stick to the main storyline, and don't do a lot of extras. I wouldn't knock. I could see Nintendo releasing it as a promotional tie in, but they haven't really done it so far. Also will that do that with GoldenEye then?

I hope Nintendo Hypes it like Metroid Prime 3. I mean when Metroid Prime 3 came out so did Metroid 1 and Super Metroid.

I was thinking this as well. If they are planning on doing this it explains why it's taken them so damn long to release the game as well.

DK64 was just a wannabe banjo kazooie.. so maybe rare is keeping it from being released.

I was actually highly disappointed that a sequel to Donkey Kong 64 wasn't announced. Donkey Kong Country is a good series, but there's already plenty of them already. Where as Donkey Kong 64 is a one of a kind Donkey Kong game, there's nothing quite like it in the DK universe. Hopefuly they will at least release DK64 on the VC.

I'm not sure if it can happen because it has a Rareware game Jetpac to get Rareware coins and play the original Donkey Kong to get Nintendo coins. Jetpac belongs to Rare they even released a remake on the 360 called Jetpac Evolved.

Rare said on their website that it's up to Nintendo what they release in the Wii Shop so yes Nintendo could release Donkey Kong 64, and all 3 Donkey Kong Countries were made by Rare and those are in the Virtual Console.

Same here. When I had heard that there was going to be a new Donkey Kong game for the Wii I was hoping for it to be a 3D platformer and not a 2D platformer. I'm still getting Donkey Kong Country Returns though.

I am not sure about all the legal details, but since Nintendo owns the character I think they are allowed to release Donkey Kong 64 on the VC. It would certainly be a great idea to do so right before releasing Donkey Kong Returns.

But Nintendo owns the rights to it DK 64 has somethings that were created by Rare like the fact that you could play Jetpac a game that Rare owns the rights of that IP they released a remake on XBLA titled Jetpac Evolved.

Nintendo_Ownes7

True. Nintendo would probably have to remove the unlockable games (the original Donkey Kong arcade game is also there, which I doubt Nintendo would want given away, seeing as how they have the NES version of that for sale on VC). Altering a VC release wouldn't be unheard of - they did it to add Message Board support to Pokemon Snap.

They also took out the Kawasaki billboard adds from Wave Race 64 and added Wii and DS ones. I'm sure they could just throw in another game or change the game so you don't have to play those parts. Also I'm happier that they are doing a sidescrolling platormer. I enjoyed those much more than DK64. It was still a good game though.

DK 64 was cool I am replaying it now and it is still fun. I like collecting things so it is perfect. The only thing that is annoying is some of the camera angles.

The other thing that is lame is the new characters. The only original one is Lanky kong. Tiny Kong is nothing but Dixie introduced in DKC 2 and Chunky Kong is nothing but Kiddy Kong introduced in DKC 3. I don't know why they decided creating new characters when the old characters would have worked just fine.

if anything they could just take out those particular problem areas and call it a day. It wouldn't be that hard, and maybe take a month to correct the code, and play test it. It's definitely possible, and I wouldn't be surprised if they did release it right before DKCR

I might be wrong but I heard that there was a conflict between Nintendo, Activision, and Microsoft over Goldeneye 007. Nintendo were the publishers, Rare developed the game and they now work with Microsoft, and Activision owns the James Bond license. Nintendo and Microsoft couldn't come to an agreement over the re-releasment of Golden Eye 007 and I think that's when Activision decided to remake Goldeneye 007. Nintendo wouldn't let them make it for the other systems and that's why you aren't gonna see it on the PS3 or Xbox 360.

Yeah that's right. That's also the reason the new Goldeneye is more of a re-imagining than a straight remake. They can't do it exactly without Microsoft's consent, which I'm guessing they wouldn't give.

That may have been why they were holding out on releasing the game on the VC in the first place.

It would be great to see it come.
