it just a person opinion on the game. i would say just becuase gamestop gives it a bad rating. makes it a bad game.

i wouldn't test the user rating a ton to. becuase alot of fan boys rate it to. so there going to give pretty much any game on the wii a 9.0

I dont think so, i think gamespot are fair towards the Wii, and never trust a user score, it's nearly always fan boys choosing over the top scores.

if they do, SMG wouldn't have gotten GOTy 2007 and no wii game shouldn't have gotten an 9.0 score and above.

Some dutch gamingsites distrust gamespot's rating. But ever since I first visited the site , they were always fair and mostly quite accurate.
Gamespot has one of the best reviewcrews on the net imo. So to answer your question: no they aren't hating the Wii.
Sonic shouldn't have been given a sword and the conduit looked quite mediocre to me.

i don't think they hate the wii but they do seem over critical on the wii over other systems and don't review 1/4 of wii games. and reviews are just 1 persons opinion i think ever major videogame review site should have at least 2 reviewers on every game posting reviews

I dont think it is all gamestop. 90% of net, mag, stores, treat Wii as a kiddie system with nothing but shovelware......Despite the fact Wii has tons of great games. People have forgotten that Nintendo has ALWAYS been a family company making games for everyone. Nothing has changed for them....but everyone;s thoughts about nintendo have. I consider myself a core gamer....i play like 2 hours a day....and i think Wii has a much better library of games then any other console. Just because Wii doesnt get some high end graphic games, doesnt mean the games we get suck. I dont not trust reviews at all. I watch them to see what the game looks like, then i get it......sometimes i rent if first....but i never let "GS" giving a game i want to play a 5 stop me from playing it.

I think they tend to be slightly harsher against the Wii than the PS360 but I take that into account and generally use Metacritic as my guide for games scores. If possible I also read the best scored and worst scored reviews as well to get a good idea of the differences of opinion the game is bringing out in people.

Understand that the wii introduced a new kind of gaming and they are being reviewed by old reviewers (not a new kind). So like the gamers, half the reviewers probably don't understand the appeal of the wii.

GS is a bit harsh, they focus primarily on what a game does not do. That's a choice. Some other review sites focus more on what the game does do. Depends on Your taste. I don't think they hate it, but i do think they aren't really interested in it.

The only pattern I see is that all those games suck. User score is generally higher than any critic score because no matter how bad the game is, there is always some group of people who thinks that they are incredible games.

GS is sorta unfair with the Wii.

I see the PS3 and 360 getting 10's from GS yet not a SINGLE Wii game has gottena 10.

i wouldnt say hate. i'd say... 1- their reviews are harsh (not exactly a bad thing, just a styIe) 2- they are not the biggest fans of the wii 3- there are lots of fanboys who rate bad games a 10, raising the average alot.

Yeah, that's pretty sad that GameSpot hates the Wii. If you like the games on the Wii, continue to support them and share them with friends and family. It'll drive the overly critical folks crazy.

Games like MGS4 and GTA4 may have gotten Perfect 10s, but I don't see them on the charts anymore. I see Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit still on the Top 20 game sales charts even after being released for over a year. Accessibility and replayability are all that matter when it comes to great games, whether GameSpot likes it or not.

as a wii60 owner, i must say that their 360 ratings are a lil too bias towards being great ttooo many times. theres actually alot of games they said were awesome on 360 - sadly when i got around to playing them, they were crap!

Who cares about Gamespot?I hate the Nintendo Wii. I bought it, one for myself, one for my mother who enjoys Wii Fit, and after Mario Kart Wii it has failed to do more than disappoint. Waste of my money - edited bad language.

thirdykal

Have you been watching the sales of MK Wii since release?

Typically in the top 10 [at worst top 20] in sales since release, every month ... for well over a year. Perhaps you don't like it, but it's evidently selling QUITE well via word of mouth [continued sales month-to-month] to people who evidently enjoy playing it.

I'm sad your tastes are so different than the masses ... but that's the way it is.

Any and every business cannot please everyone all the time. Sometimes pleasing the few requires leaving the many unhappy ... it seems to me from when the Wii was released that it was clear that Nintendo was aiming to please the many with the Wii ... a non-HD console with a new control method IMO was never aimed primarily at the `hardcore'; it's a shame you were convinced that it was and had that expectation.

I'd sell your Wii, buy a 360/PS ... and get back to playing games you like.

You do realize that the gamespot reviewer is no better than those you call fanboys right? They are just as subjective and bias as anyone else. The only difference between them and the user base, is they are lucky enough to get paid to play games. Thats it. They have things they like they have things they don't, take GTA IV for example; it got a 10 on here. While personally I found that game to be completely boring and a chore to finish, another GTA game I don't like, so do you think I would have given it a 10. Do you think someone who doesn't like FPS would give Halo a high score, or someone who hates Mario would grade it well? Of course not, thats why the Gamespot review is no different from the user review. Thats why the only persons opinion that matters to me is mine.

KungfuKitten

Well put.

About the only thing that upset me about their reviews was their July review of PES '09 for the Wii which was released in March ... and was a good game getting a good review. Sadly, such late reviews won't help sales of a good game; which it could use IMO.

Oh well, that's why there's a lot of sites + aggregators ... so we can find reviewers who we agree with and ignore those who don't.

I don't read one place for movie reviews + over time have seen MANY movie reviewers who are totally useless to me. I just move on, find the ones I like, and ignore the rest.

Using user scores is a bad metric. I'd go with metacritic. But your point still stands, GS rates Wii games way below the metacritic. They're often one of the lowest scores a game will get. Some magazine or sight (it wasn't gs) said something like, "We gave Wii game X a low score because we don't think our audience would have accepted us giving it a higher score." I think GS does stuff like that. Most people on sites like this want to hate the Wii and feel that anyone who likes the Wii doesn't know crap about games. If GS starts start giving Wii games decent scores (or reall just the scores that they deserve) people would start to think they didn't know crap about games and would visit the site less. Less visits = less views = less clicks = less money = less people paid to work for the site.

Yes, the pattern is the user scores are right around 7.5-8.2... that seems much too average for this to be of any value. Gabu-ex wrote up some amazing blogs about this topic that are worth looking through if you want to see some serious numbers and great analysis.

The scores are sometimes a bit harsh, but if you read the full review and figure out what it reads like (i.e. they rate it an 8 but it sounds more like a 9), then you can get a legitimate idea of how good it is, and pretty reliably.

Also The Conduit scored low because being on the Wii meant it would be judged as a single player game, and in that area, it was a 7.5 at best. The multiplayer was fantastic, and if they reviewed it I'm sure it would've scored better.

no, there are a lot of bad-mediocre games out there for the Wii.

I agree with them somewhat (on some games). Most Wii games are decent, but they are not spectacular.

Metacritic is my entertainment Bible, it's never let me down in games, movies, or music. I also definitely suggest this. Also Gamespot is making bank off this because if they give the Wii low scores, "hardcore" gamers will visit, and we'll also visit to whine about how the scores are wrong! :P:lol:

I juts found that out by searching GOTY 2007. I got it confused with Reader GOTY 2007 (which Modern Warfare won), but searching AIAS awards, the Winner of that one is Modern Warfare as well. Not only that, AIAS awards are bigger than Gamespot's, so yeah, Modern Warfare wins 2007.

Having played & completed those 2 games ..their score ain't that far from what I'd giv it....The Conduit I'd giv it abt 7

Disaster: DoC (Which I think was meant to BIG but failed) ...I'd giv it abt 6.5 too...the poor graphics was just a big put off...after seeing RE4 character models (much older game) ..the Disaster: DoC character models looks really really lame.

check the places Galaxy won GOTY, Gamespot included, and anyway this GOTY stuff doesn't matter anyway, Gamespot, AIAS, none of it matters. Its all subjective in the end.
