I am very soon getting a DS and i was wondering if I need a screen guard for it? Does the stylus scratch up the screen with normal use?

Thanks in advance.

You don't need one, the only people that use them are paranoid of everything and they probably carry the bloody unit in a steel case. It's durable unless your hacking at it.

i ahve a ds and there is some little scratches that you would barely notice and if that would bother yuo then well get a screen protector.but when i use my ds im carful not to just slash at the touch screen but i dont know what my brother and friends do when they play so... it all depends on how much you care about little tiny marks

so long as you don't mount it in the wal-mart gaming aisle or are under 10 years of age, you should have enough self control not to ruin your screen.

It is a good idea to have one, everyone else says they are pointless and who cares if you get a small scratch on your screen, but what if by mistake your hand slips or someone else plays it and scratches it? its not worth it to take that risk and have to pay another 100 dollars to get it repared.

If you play games that use the stylus alot then I'd say get one for sure. Top of this list are Elite Beat Agents as well as Ouendan (and i see Ouendan 2 has the spinners too, oh great!) The Hori brand seem to be the ones to get. Sorry if i'm repeating this too much but you can get them from walmart.com and choose the free shipping to store option if they offer that in your area. Play Asia has them as well.

Thanks guys. I will probably end up getting a screen guard because i am going to get EBA. And scratches annoy me, especially on something new.

I think you should get one. My sister played EBA, after a few days I saw those annoying "circle scratches".

sometimes you dont notice how hard you're pressing the screen because you are into the game. like i was playing mph. the battle was tough so i was going left and right with the stylus and soon i had 2 scratches. i dont see how you can get a scratch on the top screen though

The way I figure it, I spent $130+ on my DS lite, and if something happens to the screen, it's obviously better to just replace a $5 screen protector.  I'm one of those extremely paranoid people who protects the DS in any way possible, and yet I still got a tiny scratch on the screen before I got a screen protector.  Sure, the scratch is small and barely noticeable, but still a scratch, and there's always the chance something worse could happen.  Better to just play it safe.

Paranoid would be if it was an unrealistic fear of scratching it. There's nothing paranoid about getting a screen protector. Also I'm guessing those people who make the 'if you're under 10' comments... are probably 11 or 12.

It is pretty unrealistic IMO. As long as you use the screen as you should be you won't scratch it. I don't have a mark on mine, I've had the Lite since launch, no screen protector.

i always grab a packet of screen guards when i but a new game (well not always but when i run out) maybe its just me but my guard ends up looking wrecked after awhile and i only just got EBA, just the way i play it leave scratches and they build up, it better to be carefree about the way you play and mess up your guard then HAVE to be gentle and still be disapointed when you find that annoying scratch stands out more then you think

It's not really really necessary, but it's better if you have one.

Unfortunately the DS touch screen does get scratched from normal use. I really take great care of it and yet there's a small scratch on it, my sister also has some scratches.  However these scratches are only visible under specific lighting conditions.

Then why even bother protecting it if you can't see them. I don't have any of the scratches at all and I use the touchscreen quite a lot.

Well, I don't use screen protectors. But taking into account the fact that the average DS owner would treat its DS a lot worse than I do, the scratches can become worse too and as such screen protectors might be desirable.

For the love of god get the screen protectors, damn I'm not paranoid but you'll regret it later in like 2 months of using your DS

You don't really need one but if you don't want scratches on the touch screen get one.
