I don't do it because its not worth it. But some people don't mind blowing $40 for the slightly different experience, or for collection purposes. I don't know if X and Y will allow for more than one save file, but some people buy both games in order to have separate game saves. I just don't feel like spending extra money to essentially buy two copies of the game.

It is not worth it to me either. Maybe if they did something like make the exclusives: pokemon, town (B/W), and enemy team (R/S). That might be enough for me to consider it.
I don't buy two copies of the same game. Any differences in Pokemon can easily be rectified through trading, which is easier than ever thanks to wifi.
What's the real benefit? Is it worth spending an extra $40 just to have access to all the pokemon plus a couple of extras?MrBorreliFor me the benefit is not having to share save files with family members. I keep one version for myself and let them share the other version.
For me the benefit is not having to share save files with family members. I keep one version for myself and let them share the other version. That makes sense. I guess I didn't think about that because I never have enough money to get a second copy, that would make it more fun.[QUOTE="MrBorreli"]What's the real benefit? I have:
Red/Blue/Yellow
Gold/Silver/Crystal
Ruby/Sapphire -- didn't bother with emerald because I had played so much ruby version
FireRed -- didn't bother with LeafGreen at that point in time, especially because they were remakes and I already had the original 3 games.
Pearl/Diamond/Platinum -- My sister bought Diamond/Platinum but later gave them to me. I eventually gave Diamond to a friend.
HeartGold --- By this time I didn't want to pay $80 for two games, plus they were remakes of 3 games I already owned -- albeit good remakes.
White -- Girlfriend bought Black, but later sold it because she hated it.
I didn't bother with White2/Black2 because I didn't like the Unova region.
I'm most likely going to buy both X/Y a copy for me and a copy for my girlfriend, probably won't buy the 3rd installment because I've stopped with that nonsense long ago, but who knows?
I bought Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. I did not have anyone to trade with back then (pokemon was not very popular among my peers in middle school) so I just traded with myself. Probably the Gen I spent the most time with.
Since it is much easier to trade now I'll see which version of X and Y my friends will be getting and I'll get the opposite one so that we can trade. :)
Why would I do that? Its pretty much the same game with slight differences, there is literally no benefit from doing it unless you plan to min/max the hell out of it.
I'm more than happy to own only one version, but sometimes I do feel the urge to purchase both versions because Pokemon was such a big part of my childhood. I own every third generation (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald) and fourth generation (Diamond/Pearl/Platinum) games. The rest I only have one copy of.
Nah I don't see the point. My sister usually buys the opposite version, and on top of that three of my friends get their own copies. Plenty of potential to catch em all that way.
No I never buy both pokemon games lol. There really isn't enough differences between both versions to make me want to buy them. I guess there are some exclusive pokemon, but it usually isn't worth it. Besides... there's always the third game to buy lol :P. POKEMON Z! xD Everyone knows it's going to happen lol.Â
That's what everyone said about Pokemon Gray, but that never did happen.BigBen11111Lol I know right? Hahaha xD. That was certainly a first. I've never seen them make a direct sequel to a pokemon game like that. Well at least for the main series games
Perhaps surprisingly, no! Anyone who's seen my posts can probably tell that I'm a real Pokemaniac, but I'm also not a sucker. Other than having another save file (which is tempting) there's pretty much no benefit to doing so, especially with the inevitable companion game(s) (X2/Y2?Z/???) that are sure to come out soon after. Any Pokemon not included can be traded over Wifi, even if you don't know anyone with the games.Â
