I used to not think anything of playing my DS in public. Recently, my buddy and I were drinking at a fairly empty bar, making small talk to the bartender, lightly hitting on her. The conversation had pretty much died down and I pulled out my DS and turned it on to start playing it. My buddy kicked me and gave me a cold look, and later that night gave me a huge earful about pulling out "that chick repellent" in public, "if you're that desparate to play video games, do it on your phone", etc. Anyway I have been thinking about all the times I have played my DS in public (I used to take the bus every day to work and back) and have become very self conscious about it, and haven't played it in front of anyone since. I was wondering what your guys' feelings are about playing your DS in public, whether it's at school, on the bus, wherever.
DS is good for when you waiting to get somewhere but when you're out with your friends, reguardless of chick repellant or not I would find it very rude if one of any of my friends started playing their DS while we were hanging out.
LOL just imagine your having a conversation with someone and halfway through them talking to you stop them and say "excuse me a moment" and whip out your ds and start playing LOLOLOLOLOLOL I'm going to try it.

I agree completely. Now that I think about it the only times I do play my DS in public is while I'm on a public vehicle. I hesitate to play in a waiting room also, since I just feel rude and... Unique?
I do use my DS in public, like during my breaks at work and on the weekends when I'm in the car. As far as social events, like at a bar with friends or something like that, no.

This. I'll also occasionally play it during my breaks if the hectic work schedule mandates I can't get a break with any of my coworkers/friends.

i dont mind playing in waiting rooms. i mean, they have magazines in there, the idea is that you're supposed to sit there and find some way to entertain yourself until they call you. im not old enough to drink, but i dont think i'de play mine at a bar. if the point of going to a bar is to socialize, then bringing your DS is kinda self defeating.
i dont really play it outside the house, i usually take music for car trips of public transport and i always liek to get engrossed in a game rather than a few short minutes.
Yes when I'm waiting for my class to start or waiting for my Mom to pick me up or wait for my sister to get done with her classes so she can take me home.
I did that with my GBAsp but today will be the first time I do it with my DS.
only when flying or waiting at airports id say if u got company its rude, if ure alone its fine i get more interested in a person alone playing ds then reading news or listening to music so whole bus hear for sure
Oh that first post gave me a gooooood laugh! Well, my DS came in the mail on friday(after school) so today will be my first day with the option of taking it to school! AND I"M GOING TO DO IT!! IMA BE PLAYIN IT AT THE LUNCH TABLE!
Only time I play it outside my house is on busses and stuff like that. I can see why your friend got mad at you. If I was with somebody, adn they started playing DS in the middle of a conversation I'd be mad. I laughed at the part about the phone, though. Anybody play lego batman for the phone?
I bring it to town sometimes, because my friends and I will get bored, and we will end up sitting in Taco Bell for hours.
I bring my DSi to school too. At lunch, you can sit outside, so no one really bothers you if you are playing Gameboy or something. Also, I play in studyhall sometimes (Mostly for music).
Idk when you take out your DS in front of other people, it;s like your ignoring them and you think your DS is more entertaining. I say when you're out with other people try not to play it. But if you're waiting for other people, on the bus, or somewhere else by yourself, by all means play.
I agree that it's OK to play it in public, depending on where. Yeah, you definitely don't bring it out while you're at a bar or social event. If you're at an airport, waiting for a bus, waiting for your ride, etc... then that would be the perfect situation for a DS. On the contrary, people who say they ONLY play it inside and no where else, you're kind of defeating the point of owning a portable system.
I don't, I think it's weird when people do. I saw this one girl who was 17 playing one at this airport(looked lame) and then this old lady playing one.
Of course, but not if i'm with friends. It depends on why im going out. Like if i have a doctors appointment, or if i have to go somewhere where I have to wait, then i'll definitely take it lol. But other than that nope.
Yes, but I try to conceal it. Under NO circumstances will I bring it in the vicinity of kids I recgonize from my school (That I don't trust). I don't want to get jacked for it (I already had that happen once, NEVER AGAIN!)
