There are people in their 20's/30's/40's who never played Mario games when they were younger but do enjoy the best in platforming now.

By that he means Do you enjoy Mario, or do you only like him because he was part of your youth.

Another way I'm translating this is that do you truely enjoy Mario, or do his games just remind you of what it is like to be a child.

Mario is great.

I love all the Super Mario games he's in, but I'm not crazy about the character Mario.

Although, you have to respect Mario/Miyamoto for being the godfather of all modern gaming but If I play Brawl or Mario Kart I bairly ever pick him.
