Do you still play with the original DS model? You know, the one that people have nicknamed the "Phat" Model. Or have you moved to the later models (Ds Lite, Or DSi)?

Why do you still play with the Original model, (if you do)?

For me, I don't no longer, as I've moved onto the DS lite back when it came out. what I did though, before getting a DS Lite, is put a coll Metroid skin on it, so it's more of a showpiece now in my game collection. :)

I just got my DSi today, and I think the only thing I'll use my older phat model for from now on is for GBA games.

I still have the old one. Why buy a new one when you have a perfectly good old one?

I don't use the original one since I got my Lite. I still keep the old one as backup. Although the Lite is easier to hold, I prefer the buttons on the original DS.

No, I don't play it anymore, but I have decided to keep it. The reason is that the microphone seems to be a bit better than the one in the DS Lite. When playing Brain Age on the Lite, it was having problems with the voice recognition, while I had no such problems on the Phat.

Weird... It's the opposite for me. I had problems with the Phat receiving sound. With mi Lite and DSi, I could just talk or blow into the screen with no problem at all.

No, I don't use it anymore. I gave it to my Dad and got a DS Lite then soon got a DSi.

I don't play with the Original DS Model anymore, since I traded it in for a second DS lite for my mom to use. But I had my Original DS Model (or what I call the DS Phat) for quite a bit of time. I even kept it after getting my first DS lite, then kinda stoped using it. But I ocasinally used it to play with friends that would come over to play games via DS Download play. Ah how it brings back memories...

I agree, seems like a bit of a waste of money in my opinion to buy the same console twice (or in some cases more:| ) if your current model is still fully functional.

Nah. I had one, but the PSP looked more promising considering the DS's titles around the launch of both systems were pretty bad, so I sold it, and bought a PSP. Then the DS just began to explode with amazing game after amazing game so I bought myself a black Lite. Can't be more pleased, but I won't be buying the DSi. I want the true successor to come out before I buy a new one.

But, if I still had my phat I still would use it most likely. That thing was butt ugly though.

I sold my original Phat DS, though now I really wish that I didn't. The DS Lite looks a lot sleeker and nicer, but I felt that it was a lot harder to hold the DS Lite, and now my touch screen is uncalibrated and I can't seem to recalibrate it correctly, so I have to point somewhere a few centimeters off from where I actually want to point.

I would like to go back to a Phat, but there's just no way of getting one for a reasonable price anymore.

I like the original design for the DS, it's a nice solid handheld. I've not bothered with the Lite and the DSI, the original is still working beautifully well, so why would I dismiss it just because it's older? Older doesn't mean it's any less useful.

I upgraded to the Lite on launch day and never looked back. The Phat felt like a toy, there was too much casing, the stylus was too small (unless you were 5 y/o), the screen was too dim, and the speakers (on mine) were starting to not work.

The other two models are too small. One of the selling features of each of the newer DS models is that they're smaller, but I find it to be a negative than a positive. It isn't a problem when playing a game based around the face buttons, but with the heavily touch screen-based games, they become unweilding and almost unplayable to me.There are a couple other issues I have with them, such as button feel and durability (the original DS model is built like a tank),but the size is the biggest issue.

The screens for the DS Lite and DSi,though, are both god-like.I wish someone would give the original DS model a screen like the DS Lite or DSi,since the screen for the original DS is pretty weak.

Yes, i still play with my Original DS because....

  • My first one
  • Its blue
  • My hands are large, so i need somthing large to grip.
  • Paying for a DSI is just plain expensive, and loss of GBA slot really makes pokemon importing a hassle. :S
  • (add to the above point) I have loads of GBA games i could perfect on, so that adds loads more hours of gametime. :D

Exactly. It's like going from a 42' 720 > 42' 1080. Sure the picture will look better, but there's nothing wrong with 720 now is there? Aesthetics don't affect gameplay and I've been hearing broken hinges, weak buttons, and now a weak mic on the Lite, so my original DS will continually be used until it breaks.
