I got it a day early from amazon. I just reached world 3 and it's definitely good. The controls are MUCH better than the wii version. So much that I think the difficulty of the Wii version is due mostly to the controls.
I'm skipping it for now. I hear the graphics and framerate are very subpar. Plus, I already have the Wii version so I'll just waggle my way through that one at some point.
I am sure it will be great, but I am still greatly baffled by Nintendo's decision to remake a game a few years after its original release.

Technically DKC was on Super Nintendo... I never played the WII version, but "returns" seems to tell me it's similar in some sense. And Donkey Kong Country on the SNES was amazing for it's time.
Well, we know the core game is excellent. From what I've read the original DKCR will of course have the higher resolution, frames per second, and more accessible multiplayer. ... and perhaps the con of "waggle" controls, which some didn't like. The port, meanwhile, will have the benefits of 3D, portability, eight new levels, and a more traditional control scheme; the primary trade-offs being a more "murky" resolution, low and more unstable frame rate, and needing two systems and game carts for multiplayer.

Well if they wanted to port one of their side scrollers over, I can't think of one that would show off the 3D better than Donkey Kong Country Returns. Also porting DKC to handheld systems has been a tradition.
