Do you think Wii games will be better once the LAST GENERATION is dead?

(This is a repost because for some unexplained reason it was locked before?? Hopefully it won't happen again! I'm trying to ensure that it doesn't :D )

What I mean is, we all complain about how the Wii is always getting shody half-assed ports of games instead of actual "Wii" games designed from the ground up and given the proper attention and make use of the hardware and controller. Let's face it - what we're really talking about are PS2 games that become Wii "version". They don't start with the 360 version and bring the games specs down a little untill they max out the Wii, which would look great incidentally, or much of the time do they make Wii specific version from the ground up, but take the version for last generation's weakest system and convert that. What a load of bollocks!

Now in a year or so when the PS2 is finally dead and we are truly left with just this generation, consisting of the Wii, PS3, and 360 only, developers will no longer have crappy last gen games to work with as the foundation. If logic serves me properly then that should mean that the quality of a lot of the offshoot and 3rd party games will increase as they'll only be taylored for all three more powerful systems or really be developed from the ground up for the Wii. Right? I mean it's gotta be that way. That actually makes me pretty excited!

Thoughts?

A lot is going to be said inthe next few months. If the games espeically third party sell well, then we'll being seeing a lot of great games once PS2 dies. However if 3rd party games don't do that well.... This could turn into a GC situation very quickly.

Well in theory it should, since there will be nowhere to port games from. All Wii games should be ports from other next gen consoles, or more likely games built from the ground up. Also I think that they will make better use of the Wii's hardware instead, because they will probaly start designing engines specifically for the Wii.

Sepewrath

Exactly! That's pretty much exactly what I was getting at. Devs will pretty much be forced to (gasp!) create engines for the Wii based on the Wii hardware! Novel idea I know lol. They should be doing it anyway. It's the best selling thing on planet Earth right now, why wouldn't they want to spend money on their titles and take their time. Don't they have any pride in what they do? With no PS2 or last gen hardware to work from they can't be lazy anymore. I really think it'll lead to an even brighter future :)

Honestly I have a feeling that the third party games should do fine. Medal of Honor and No More Heroes and Resident Evil should all be pretty good sellers. Then devs will see (duh!) what happens when they spend quality time and money on the games they make. They'll make money!!

Well there are some good ports like RE4 and Okami. But to answer your question, sorta. It could go either way. Either devs will buckle down and make a good multiplat to PS3 and 360 games/they will make exclusive games which means fewer games with higher quality OR there will be very few good third party games.

The future is scary.

I think we need a mircale because alot of Wii fans dont support the games that are good and also are third party. I just hope nintendo fans will look at those games and buy them like I will.

i dont think u can take the next gen titles and dumb them down to the wii version. i think they have to be worked from the ground up. never the less, we'll probably see better looking games later next year

The original thread was locked because some of the replies were getting into System Wars material, by comparing other systems and even bashing them. I just wanted to remind everyone to not compare other consoles in this thread. It specifically concerns ports from last-gen hardware and the Wii.

The replies so far have been on-topic, so keep it up. :)

Anyway, my guess is that we'll see the quality of games increase next year. I've related my theory on this somewhere before, but I'll repeat it in short. Developers are now seeing that the Wii has a potential for huge profit because of the install base, but they are also seeing that bad games don't sell. Since it takes many months to create a game, we won't see how developers change their approach until next year. My hope is that they spend more time and money on making games with good controls and wide appeal, rather than hoping an extremely low-budget game will still sell.

I posted on the last thread, on topic I hope, but thought a simple answer to this is no. We will get better games once developers make Wii games. The problem is only Nintendo is really into making a game designed around just the wii. Everyone else wants to make games run on all different platforms so they can cash in from everyone that owns at least one of the systems. The rest of my comments on this matter would be system wars material... thus I'll omit it and move on.

Exactly devs have to notice by now the difference between say the Nintendo 1st party titles, solid 3rd party titles and the crap that is just thrown together to make an easy buck. If they make solid games they will sell well, and having no easy way to port games and slap Wii controls on them,I think that this is what we will begin to see.

If its done correctly its not neccesarily being dumbed down. Besides that instead of wondering whether to make a Wii version which is what most devs are doing right now for next gen games like Timeplsitter 4, Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter and then making a crappy port of those games like many months later. They might as well make these games att he same time.

If the devs can make a game and really make the graphics look MP3-like, really utitlize the controller I just dont get how some of these games are so unpolished, and make sure teh AI/physics/range is all goodthen I dont have much to complain about. i think its a little harder to make a multiplat game for a console that is different but its not as hard as some are making it out to be. I think if they gave the Wii as much attention as they do with PS3 and 360 version (cause I am pretty sure they will be inclined not to) then we should see some good work.

Look at what Rockstar did with Table Tennis. The game was ported from 360. granted the graphics could have been better but almost every review have read says the Wii version is more fun. The only problem was that they stupidly did not add online play.

another thing why dont devs use bump mapping and programable shaders? IGN has said that there is little evidence that anu game has used bump mapping and SMG is the only game to use programable shaders. Nintendo should let more devs use programamble shaders, if itsa mtter of code, and devs should use bump apping more.

It makes me wonder how possible it could be to actually take a game from it's 360 or PS3 form and...I don't know, reduce the specs to make the same game run on the Wii. I don't know that much about making games and programming and code and all that. From where I see it, it's possible to take a game like Tomb Raider Legend, release a PS2 version and then optimize that to release the 360 version. Couldn't the reverse be done? I'd think it could but again my knowledge is limited....

They did do it. They made Table Tennis, a 360 port. the game wasnt even given as much attention and it worked great. Graphics were good, controls were way better than 360's, the only thing missing was online play.

i think that once Metroid Prime 3 is released in the UK it will set new standards for Wii games. the graphics are amazing and the gameplay is perfect. or so they are saying. if its really true, and the graphics are as good as the screenshots they've been showing then it will easily be the best Wii game to date.hopefully then all Wii games will be on that level or better.

No, to me last generation has nothing to do with games coming on the wii. I think it has to do the that developers ot putting not enough effort to it.(Heatseekers dev) They should just jump in to the Wii pool not just putting their feet in to check it out.

Well the cool thing about MOH2 is that it seems like Wii is not the port but rather the original game and PSP is the one getting the port.
