Has any one else notice a lot of people asking for the wii to get remakes and ports of old games instead of originals?

People keep making threads asking for SE to remake FFX or XII, or asking for some first person shooter from last gen to be ported over with wii controls added on.

Am I the only one here who bought the wii to play new games instead of remakes of 5 year old games with new controls slapped on? Doesn't any one else find it worrying that people are happy to play older ports instead of new original games?

I really want Nintendo to make a new IP. Not Wii Paint, or Wii Diet, or Wii Estudiar Espanol. I want them to make a new amazing game.

I really also desire a game that takes full advantage of the Wii remote, or finds a creative use for it. Sure, it may be limited, however developers with huge resources can definently find something more creative than "shake to slash".

Remember all those ideas people came up with when the controller was annonced? What happened to those?

Yeah people should stop living in the past.

However, it IS pretty cool to occasionally play masterpieces from the past.

ports are not always bad. If devs actually take their tiem to make a port it has the potential to be fantastic.

I don't think ports are necessarily bad. A well done port can give new life to a game, or allow it to exist more as the developers dreamed than was possible before (i.e. painting in Okami). Besides, a well done port that is a financial success encourages developers to try their hands on the Wii again.

I bought a Wii to play Wii games. I bought Resident Evil 4 Wii, and will soon buy Okami, but I haven't played those games before even though they are ports. If a remake comes out that is not a VC and gets its merits then I will probably buy it.

There is a lot more to the Wii then ports. Look at it's 2008 lineup. One port. Wow, Nintendo sure is making a lot of ports.

lol estudiar espanol :p I completely agree. Nintendo should make games not programs that are slightly fun. They should also make games that have never been created not revive a game and charge moeny, anyone can do that!

Eh, ports arent so bad. If they allow new people to play the game, then whats the problem. As long as ports dont dominate the Wii's library, which they arent so far, I'm fine with them.

I'm also worried about this especially because of zelda, people are saying they want a remake from a link to the past when it would be much better to have a new zelda game

Well some remakes are good as people have said (Okami, godfather), and the thing is, we can imagine a game that already exists with Wii controls and ask for it specifically. It's harder to ask for an original IP or something that doesn't exist.

I'm not too worried about the Wii's situation. As of now, I have plenty of games on my list to keep me busy all the way to Q2 of 2009. And I'm still confident that 2009 (as I've been saying for months now) will be the year when we start seeing the games the Wii was built to run.

I'm not just talking about nintendo. This is about 3rd parties too.

In fact, 3rd parties are worse at doing it than nintendo is.

I do like some ports as they remind you of the qualities that made the original game so enjoyable. Saying that, I do get more exited by the prospect of original titles.

Lets look at it this way. many sequels are nothing more than a remake of old games with a new paint job, improved polygon count, and improved controls. They offer little or nothing in terms of originality gameplay wise. They might have a different story or side quests but at a gaming level they are the same game, remade. And people buy these games like crazy. Now enter in 'true' remakes of old games. The consumer has nostolgia, they don't have to learn all the secrets of a game they already have mastered, people love familiarity not risk in finding something new, they loved it so much then why wouldn't an enhanced version be that much better, and now they don't have to keep that old console to play the game anymore... This sounds like insta-gold to not only the customers willing to accept it but devs that like milk. BUT, I do agree with you. I keep around my old systems and games and the 'enhanced version' is already out most of the time via 'sequels'. So I too would like to see something original than a remake.

At least with ported games there a certain quality garentee. Where as new games, you never know.

At this point i'd prefer a remade game from Square on the Wii rather than somthing new. Same for Konami.

So much shovelware.

Not that new things are bad, but the third parties don't seem good with the new.
