I mean its just a huge dsi. Whats the point? It's a dsi for your grandmother is what it is.

I mostly play mine at home, so yeah, had I not had a DSi already (replaced my original DS with at the DSi launch), I would have gone for XL over the regular.
wait... you answered your own question. what's the point of this thread then? the DSi XL is for people who play it at home and prefer larger screens.BrunoBRS
DSiXL = Portable System
Portable System =/= Home System
That's why it sucks. It's just another of Nintendo's stupid cash in's...like the Mirco. Only, I liked the Mirco, because making it easier to carry your portable system in almost any tight space in a suitcase, is just f***ing genius.
nah different concepts :) DS XL is kinda meh, reduces portability that 60 inch tv is not meant to be portableMy friend has a 60 inch TV
So I guess she bought a TV for old people?

there are tons of people who only play their portable games at home. i guess they all suck because they don't care about the portability.Yea i usually play DS sitting down comfortable somewhere so portability isn't a huge issue and i usually have my backpack with laptop with me
I'd love to get a DSi XL, and maybe the bronze one, but a Black one would seal the deal for me
(in NA)
If not for the fact that I have access to 2 DSi and 1 DSlite (mine, my wife and my sons), and the price being a little higher than I'd like I'd jump all over the DSi XL.
Hmmm, I am old I'll admit that (so maybe the poster who previously said it was for old people was right), oh wait I play my DSi all the time and with games that aren't considered casual. Of my 80 DS games and 45 gba games probably at least 10 percent gets played weekly. A few things I do wish however was that my DSi was a little bigger because I do play it so much (at home) that a larger screen would be great. Also, my son is constantly wanting me to play a game so he can watch me play it and I'll tell you that nothing is worse than trying to play a DS game with a 5 year old putting his face in front of the screen while you're trying to play. The larger screen and better view angle would be great for this. If you've got kids then playing a handheld in the home isn't so odd, it's really the only kind of game machine you can move around the house with to relax and play with where your kids aren't.
Finally having a little more hand space would be a plus. So no, I don't think it's a joke I think it fills a lot of wants/needs that I have issues with on the current platform. That said I'll probably not be picking one up right away do to the fact that I currently have 3 (and a gba and gamecube gba player) for the portable games I already have.
it's funny, all the young posters are like "too big i don't get it!"
but when you get older, and you're fingers get fatter, eyesight get worse, you start to understand
I don't know why people are complaining about the DSi XL it's not like Nintendo are forcing you to buy it. As for me I'm happy just with my DS Lite.

wwefanforlife
yea i just wish they'd released the XL at the same time as the DSi like they said they wanted to originally
when they said they'd canned a new handheld in spring 2009, people thought "a new handheld after the DSi!?" but it was really the XL
if they'd released the XL then, people would've praised the move as giving consumers options and i for one, would've bought the XL instead of the DSi
but i don't mind, as long as nintendo fixes the DSiWare software transfer situation i'll be happy
I'm probably the oldest one here (in fact I'm probably older than two of you together). I still own, and play on the PHAT. And I play every day for a couple of hours, so I don't consider myself a casual user. Will I get one with a bigger screen? Depends. I'll probably wait a year or two and watch everyone who rushed to get one complain about the pixels, and whatever else that might wrong - cause like my dear old dad used to say 'never buy anything the year it comes out - that's when you get all the bugs.'
And then I'll probably buy a reconditioned one (for half the money) that someone played with for a bit and then sold in order to get the next best thing.

The DSiXL is still a portable system. You can play it on the toilet, on a bed, etc. It was probably intended for home use but it's still portable.I'm probably the oldest one here (in fact I'm probably older than two of you together). I'm 37 here. If you're older than that... well then you're old :P
I'll answer this with a post that I made in one of my unions:
I personally see no point in buying the DSi XL, unless it's being purchased by somebody that doesn't have some model of DS. It's really just the same system, but bigger, and it doesn't have any other new features. That's like spending $300 on a "new type of Wii" that's the exact same console, but with "FANCY" written on the top of it in Sharpie.
[QUOTE="darth-pyschosis"]you shouldn't use fingers as a reason. the buttons are the same size.it's funny, all the young posters are like "too big i don't get it!"

multiple hands on have praised the fact that big hands have more room to rest , i didn't nessecarily mean the buttons specifically
i like how it has a good sized dead zone for the palm to rest near the start/select now

I'm so old your dad and I probably went to school together. :P
I'm so old that I learned how to type on a manual typewriter.
I'm so old that I remember feeding punch cards into a computer mainframe.
I'm so old that I saw Elvis and the Beatles on Ed Sullivan - on a black and white tv.
---------------------------------
Well I've finally seen a picture of the DSi XL and I have to say - not impressed. Yeah the screens are BIG but the buttons are really really tiny. This is one of the reasons why I prefer my old Phat. (I am tempted because it will come with 3 already downloaded games - but then again, they might not be the games I want).

no. i've had many DSs. over the years, as the good games for DS came pouring in, guess what happened to my left eye? It got worse. My vision got worse in it. Having bigger screens seems like a great idea for me, as it will be easier to see the games.
it is not comparable to a "fancy" wii unless this fancy wii makes it easier for me to see my games thus making it easier to enjoy the games, and also does the fancy wii add better battery life? and a bigger stylus that is argueably better to use?
No. There are plenty of perfect reasons for the XL. Just because none of those reasons cater to you, doesn't mean it isn't a blessing for some others
what he said, and besides that "fancy" is a great word. :)
rgsniper1
what who said?
If you agree with the person saying DSi XL is pointless, you're ignoring the fact that the XL helps people with poor vision enjoy games to the fullest possibility.
XL isn't fancy per say, its made for older people who generally have suffered vision damage as they age, i'm 22 and i've got some pretty bad vision in my eyes, i don't always play with my glasses on i don't want to have to.
I don't see why so many people have a problem with the XL when all it is is giving more options to the consumers, Since when is that bad?
but if you agree with me, Good Job!

P.S. It's fine if the XL is considered "fancy", because fancy is a super sweet word :)
The biggest joke about this thing is the price. $189--ARE YOU SERIOUS NINTENDO?! The XL unit is rather large--I would almost consider it a tabletop system--and for TEN dollars more I can buy a wii??? Who in the world is making decisions over at Nintendo? Stupid Stupid Stupid.

its funny coz i can tell you who made this decision at nintendo,...it is everyone you know around you!
Seriously, the market bought 16 million DSi's at $169, and a modest $20 increase isn't a whole lot, nintendo was right to do this business-wise coz people will buy it too. Just like in Japan the XL sells 25k per week and DSi sells 15k per week nowadays, the market told nintendo how to price it
When people buy something multiple times, their ,....ah its an economic term i'm looking for i can't remember, marginal utility! their marginal utility decreases every time they buy something, and nintendo is in the business of re-selling DSs to people and getting those people to buy multiple DSs as gifts
So they've got to add something to every re-do, and adding things costs money. They added the bigger screens and $16 in DSiWare games free on the XL.
Yea, its pretty costly. And its near the Wii. But i doubt many consumers will care about that
i dont see much point
wazzawazza18
you see thats what i love about it
that i don't see,...enough....or well enough
I just got an eye exam and new glasses so i really feel the need to upgrade to XL with my poor vision
