I have noticed at least three or four different threads relating to Wii hardware problems. I've had mine since August and its never done anything out of the ordinary. Am I supposed to expect something to happen (knocks on wood)? I've played through Mario Galaxy, Zelda, Metroid, Wii Sports, SSB Melee and then some. I even left my Wii on for several hours to unlock a character for Melee. How long to people usually play their Wii's before it starts showing signs of hardware failure and what are the best ways I can avoid possible problems? I really, really don't want my Wii to crap out on me at 12:05 a.m. on January 9th... (knocks on wood again). I nearly had a heart attack on September 25th when I came home to play Halo 3 and my Xbox wasn't turning on. (I figured out quite fast that it wasn't the xbox because the tv wasn't turning on either. Turns out my friends pulled a prank by switching the circuit off in the living room... **** holes.)

Anyway, again I'd like to ask if there are any ways I can avoid a potential hardware problem? My 360 is trouble enough.

Nintendo has you covered with a 15 month warranty, don't they?
Don't worry about it. Just play the heck out of it.
The only Nintendo product I have that has ever failed me was my NES.

Mine has well over 500 hours on it and shows no sign of a problem. That's not counting the times when my kids just leave in on all night long. It seems to be a durable machine. I'd just make sure to keep it well ventilated and blast some canned air in the air on occasion - just in case.

I've never had problems either apart from my own accidents!! I accidently dropped my Wii and the eject button got stuck and i once left my GC on the floor and my nephew urinated in it while switched on! Part from them 2 Boobies iv never had one problem from any Nintendo console ever!! Oh yeah the same Nephew who urinated in my GC now owns my other GC lol.

not bad from owning Snes, N64, GB, GBAx2, GBDS, 2x Wii's, GC.

You dont wanna see my Sony Line up of whats broken but that is not the subject lol.

My Wii is getting repaired for overheating problems. It shows artifacting during some games, and the problem has gotten worse over time. Apparently, it is a somewhat common problem, and although Nintendo hasn't officially stated the cause, there is some speculation that running WiiConnect24 can generate too much heat since the fans are not running while in standby mode. I don't know if this is true or not, but I'm setting mine to 'off' when I get it back, since WiiConnect24 isn't really used for much anyway.

I'm assuming you just call Nintendo up and register your Wii for the warranty right?

Anyways I've never had any problems with my old Nintendo consoles... I think SNES is still to this day the most reliable console ever made.

the only problem i ever had with my wii are the annoying artifacts i had to wait 3 weeks until i could get it back. but anyway nintendo gives you a 1 year warranty and you can also extend it 3 more months so if you have a problem just call em up.

nothing wrong with the wii itself. Madden 08 is a completely different story however half the time i try and play it freezes while loading not to mention it randomly deletes my roster updates and saves. No problems what so ever with my wii, i had an xbox360 but sold it because it started overheating and what not, i was planning on buying a new one right away but that was 3 weeks ago and i ended up spending all the money i got on stuff for my little wiimachine. I was skeptikal at first but i can;t believe how much i ended up liking this lil thing.

Well mine drinks alot and sometimes hit's me when I haven't downloaded a VC game in a while but it says it's sorry and I love my Wii. On a serious note I have only come across errors maybe 3 times since I've had it. (I got it at launch)

I have a launch unit and haven't had a single problem with it. Based on my experience with Gamecube and Wii, don't expect to have any hardware failure. I've had mine on for days at a time already, Nintendo nails it when it comes to reliable machines.

The only 'problem' I had was getting to the Wii Shop channel the first time. I looked the error code up in the manual, 'switch your wireless router to channel 11' it told me. So I did. 'Problem' fixed. But that is the only thing I have had... and I wouldn't even define it as a problem. I didn't have to move around jumpers or cables, and no tech support was needed, so hardly a problem.

There is possibility of overheating with any electronics. Just keep a few inches space on all sides and you should be ok. The unofficial consensus on overheating at the moment is that it likely occurs from NOT turning your Wii on for a long period of time, but keeping WiiConnect24 on. The active connection slowly heats up the Wii, but there are no fans running to vent the heat. Like I said earlier, this is just a possible cause, it may just be a simple manufacturing defect in some consoles...who knows? But if you go to youtube and search for Wii artifacting or Wii overheating, you'll find several examples.

I haven't had any problems whatsoever. I've almost had mine for a year already. But then again, I'm not one of those people who abuses their consoles or leaves them on for hours/days on end. -shrug-

No problems here, Nintedo knows how to make a system. My NES is almost 20 years old and still works.

Well I picked up my Wii on launch, and about two months later it started malfunctioning. I called Nintendo and in about a week they sent me a brand new console, and that was the end of my problems. Just as long as it's under warranty it's not a hassle to replace.

I've only had one little problem so far, and that was MP3 freezing when I was starting the game.
But then, my Wii already fell one and half metre from the ground 2 times so I guess she's behaving pretty well...

I seem to get a few unusual small gliches when playing VC games, I'm not sure if they're that common or not. Normally happens when playing Zelda OoT, I open the home menu and small black dots start appearing. When I choose to go back to the game, a blank screen appears for a few seconds but then goes back to normal.

Besides that, I've had an overheating problem where the system shuts down completely at random times. Rang up Nintendo and were great help, all I needed to do is grab a toothpick and clean the ventilation fan, which saved me from sending it away which I was gonna do. Happened a few days before Metroid Prime 3 came out as well, oh yeah!

I play my Wii for hours at a time every day, and when it's off I have it in standby mode. It's been working fine for six months now;)
