I remember when i beat subspace in brawl i saw something that said havok. Does brawl run on havok, because isnt havok meant for FPS and isnt Havok meant for the "rag doll" effect for when things go flying. Or when everthing is the game can be moved if forced is applied.

Just because an engine was designed for something doesn't mean you have to use it that way. Sonic:Wii used the PhysX engine, which was designed for City of Heroes/Villians and a few other PC games after all..

In Brawl, every move relies on launch power, which would be the main feature of using Havok. Game Arts probably recognized that they don't handle interactions in their games and bought the engine so they could lessen development time. Of course, this is also explains why the game was delayed twice, as everyone had to learn how to adapt the engine while keeping Brawl from being a ragdoll fighter.

Dang, it makes sense now..thank you for bringing it up.

Havok is just a licensed physics engine.

List of titles that have used it and there are more to come. Most of them are fairly big name titles.

Theres alot more to physics than ragdoll in FPSs. Acceleration, mass, impact, etc, it all ties into SSBB very much. It works pretty well in the game and I'm sure they are glad they went with it. As for realism, physics middleware can be tweaked for whatever kind of game you need. Everything from racers, FPSs, fighting games, etc benefit from some form of underlying physics working with animations.

The havok physics engine isn't just for FPS, other games like Max Payne 2 (TPS) and age of empires 3 (RTS) make brilliant use of it ;)
