I ask because, according to my projected budget, I won't be able to afford MP3 until after my SMG and Brawl preorders are fulfilled, which is obviously a few months from now (and they both take priority, although Metroid is certainly a very close third).

Anyway, this should at least give me enough time to beat Metroid Prime, which I recently picked up and am still working on, but when I imagine playing with the Wii controls, the whole game becomes rather slow and clumsy in comparison. I haven't even bothered to obtain a used copy of Echoes, and now I'm starting to wonder if I should, because if Super Metroid and SSBM can render their respective forerunners completely obsolete, I see no reason why Corruption can't have done the same for MP1 & 2.

Yes? No?

Matter of fact, use the money that you were going to spend on Prime 2 and pick up either Pikmin 2 or F-Zero GX. You won't regret it, these are the two most unsung heros of the Gamecube.

But yeah, bust your *** and finish prime and get money to buy Prime 3 (i know they sound like contradicting statements) but I'm playing it now and it's just so satisfying to get lost in that world with the music and archeture.

No. I'm playing through the first 2 right now, and I'm actually enjoying them. (Something I'd never thought I would do.)

Not obsolete, but I enjoy 3 more than the other 2.

Although MP3 is definitely my favorite, it definitely doesn't make the other 2 obsolete.

Prime 1 is a masterpiece. 2 was very good but a little bit of a let down. 3 completely reinvigorated the series. So I'd say definitely play 1 and 3, and if you really like those, you'll like 2, as well.

Prime 1 was amazing. Prime 2.. well, sucked when you compare it to prime 1. i think Prime 3 is the best though.

I'm going to take the alternate viewpoint and say yes, Corruption renders the other two obsolete.  I'm a big Metroid fan, but I straight up did not like Prime 1.  I got about halfway through, got bored, and sold it.  I didn't even bother with Echoes, figuring that it would be more of the same.  For me, the problem was pacing.  Everything just felt so slow, and I think the controls were a big part of it.  Clearly, Corruption does not have the same problem, and is a much better game for it.  I think it's probably the most fun I've ever had playing a game.  The exploration and gunplay feel fast, smooth, and satisfying.  Get it ASAP.

Well I think Prime 3 makes Echoes look bad but not Prime 1. Prime 1 was the greatest Metroid Games of all time up until the 3rd which introduced a different approach such as voice acting, etc. I can't personally compare 1 and 3 but I can say Echoes was just bad in my opinion. From the start it was just odd.

When you beat 1 you can't forget it. Its just that good.

Or watch the metroid retrospective at Gametrailers.com. It will fill the gaps for you. Should be episode 2 or 3.

The reason I didn't play prime 1 or 2 is because I hate shooters with a regular controller and I'm not intending to buy the two games either. Hey, I'm not even a shooter fan lol, but Re4 wii edition and Prime 3 changed all that. I'm sure story wise and events wise it's a satisfying experience, but it's probably not mandatory.

No it doesn't. Metroid Prime is still fun and I just started playing MP2 again after getting halfway through the third one and realizing I never actually finished Echos. I'm pretty far into the second game now and I can say that although 3 is better, 2 is definately, definately not obsolete.

Please, you SHOOT things. Prime 1 and 2 is the same exprience with a controler than any other shooters on console. Just because you can't do headshot doesn't mean it's not a shooter. Oh right... you can do headshots in RE4..... so I guess it's a 3rd person SHOOTER. Sorry I got pumped up but I just think it's stupid getting lost in technical terms like that.

You shoot things in Final Fantasy but is it a shooter? No. It places more emphasis on adventure than shooting so it's FPA. Actually RE4 isn't a shooter either because it places more emphasis on Surivival Horror not TPS.
