Does Nintendo need to release more 1st party games more often?

Ok, so heres my thoughts. 3rd party support for Nintendo is horrible!! Is has been since N64 days. My only reason for purchasing nintendo is for the 1st party games.

And this is the case for many gamers from what I have heard. To be frank I worry for Ninty, 3rd Party's this Gen has really sucked big time. Maybe the worst its ever been for them. And i am not talking sales, but quality. Where are the big multi plats? (SF4, Bioshock, AC, MWF2 etc etc.) Where is our AAAE 3rd party games?

So, does Nintendo have to adrress this seriously. Like build more 1st party studios? We seriously need more f-zero, starfox, donkey kong, pikmin, kirby... hell i will even take a ice climbers game.

the lack of Nintendo IP's this gen is dissappointing.

Compared to the gamecube, the wii has more third party AAE games. So I'd say Nintendo should still do what they do and let third party companies try to shine more.

Seriously I owned a GCN and the droughts were more horrible than the N64 even though first party support was there.

I'm sure that if Nintendo felt they could make more money by doing so, they would. I mean it's not like Nintendo is just sitting on piles of moneybags twirling their mustaches while chortling at those poor gamers for whom they consciously refuse to make games despite being able to do so.

Agreed 100%. I could care less about most 3rd party games. I only buy nintendo systems so I can play mario, zelda etc. Starfox and f-zero should have been released a long time ago.

I agree too, same reason i bought the Wii

Of course they will make Wii fit and Wii sports resort over Starfox and F-zero. Huge difference in sales, those franchises are expendable. That doesn't mean we won't see more of them in the future though.

Actually I'd rather play Resort than those :P

Nintendo probably just wants to stay small. Maybe they think their quality would suffer if they got too big.

Yeah they don't want to overload the market, that only causes people to lose interest. Also that would be bad news for the 3rd party, granted they having made any real effort to take advantage of the space Nintendo leaves them i.e. the second half of 2008 and early 2009. Imagine if Nintendo had released Galaxy 2 the same weak at Tri, I bet Tri wouldn't be doing nearly as well as is. Like Gabu said, its clearly not viable from a business standpoint, otherwise they would do it. Sepewrath

This is pretty much how i feel, but i would also like to add another point. Compared to the GC and N64 Nintendo have released alot more 1st party titles. When was the last time we got 2 3d mario platformers in one gen? never :P

I don't care about the quantity of the games but the quality, maybe because i can't play alot of games like before :?

I'll definitely agree that the third-party support for Nintendo is terrible, especially as an owner of both a Wii and a 360, where the third-party support is much stronger. I would like to see some more first-party games released more often, but not at the expense of quality.

It's not Nintendo's job to police the quality of 3rd party games, that's the job of consumers.

I wouldn't want to see Nintendo trade quality for quantity, so I don't overly mind. There are some games that I'd like to see released more frequently, but Nintendo can only do so much. It's true that most 3rd party games are garbage, but if you search closely, you can find some good ones.
