Does Nintendo still repair broken ds lite hinge for free? I have read all over the internet that they do but im not sure how long ago that was. If they dont is there an easy way to replace it or fix it without having to buy a whole case and stuff.

NO they don't... My first DSL right hinge broke after about 2 years. It only has a year warranty WITH the receipt... otherwise it costs about $80. You might as well just save your money for a DSi. I Just waited for the DSL to go on sale for $100 and after a few months it did before christmas :)

Actually, it depends. They fixed mine for free as of last week. I called them on 3/26/09, sent my DSL in on 3/27/09, and FedEx tracks my shipment as expected to arrive back here today. Apparently, the whole repair was serious enough to warrent what would have been a $75.00 (I didn't even think it was cracked that bad...it hasn't fallen apart like some peoples DS, just a hairline crack I wanted fixed BEFORE it got that bad).

I've owned my DSL for at least three years now (long out of warrenty). I think it all depends on who you get on the other line. A tip from someone who used to work in customer service-be NICE. Most of the people who work in customer service are still human, and if we've been given the latitude to be able to make a decision, a lot of us will be more compelled to make that decision on your behalf if you treat us as such. I called, explained calmly what the problem was (owned my DS for 3 years, a crack developed about a year ago and it's getting bigger, I would like to know if it's possible to get this fixed before it becomes a bigger problem). Right away she said that what she could do for me was a one time only "out of warrenty" repair for my DSL for free.

Hope this helps!

That's pretty awesome, I ended up talking to a woman who was real stubborn... and she was convinved that the DSL was $160 even though it was $130 and i told her I live in Canada... I think she was frustrated with me for some reason? I do hate, however, talking to people with foreign accents that don't understand english, seriously why bother coming to Canada unless you've fully learned our language? It just makes everything THAT much more frustrating... especially being on the 360 help line (whatever its called) for a good hour explaining myself over and over and over... sorry went on a rant lol....

I have a DS that dosn't have any visable cracks or damage to it, but everytime you move the screen, it switches it's self off, also when ever we close the screen it also switches it's self off. We got the DS via frequant flyers, so not a direct store as such, so dont have store I can walk back into. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advanced.
