You know, how when you finish the final boss, and it goes through all the happy-go-lucky cutscenes, and then it 'freezes', and you have to turn it off without saving it, so people are always saying "YOU'VE GOT TO SAVE THE PRINCESS!!1" when you already have. The fact that there's no closure really bugs me.Totodile
Not really. I mean you know you beat the game because you have the memory of it. I'm sure if they really wanted to they could specially design the game so that once you beat it you have to play it all over just to fight the final boss again. Some games do that like Golden Sun. But I prefer being slightly before the final boss so I can fight him again just to prove that I can beat the final boss again.
[QUOTE="EmilioDigsIt"]I hate how I can't save after I beat Ganondorf.
I mean, what was the whole point, then?

You keep fighting him and beating him.
That happens with a lot of games. Its kind of odd that its a save and not the end and final scenes of a game that gives you closure. Aside from WW Zelda's never had a New Game +, so theres no reason to save the info that you beat the boss and you dont collect anything during the final fight so theres really no point. Unless they start to add features for like a New Game + and things like bonus content you unlock by beating the game there wont be a save at the end.

I don't know what you mean by "freezes". The only time that happens is by design in the N64 games. The other ones have an out-option to return to the main menu again.
And no... I don't prefer that the game saves permanently after the final boss. I like keeping the game save fresh so that I can go back to the final boss and see the ending of the game more than once. Games that save over your progress and require you to start all over, even with new items, annoy the *expletive* out of me. Of course, older Zelda games actually do try to save over your information (Zelda and Zelda 2 for the NES both start you over at the beginning if you click "start" at the very end). But at least in those cases you can reset and go back to your place without having to do that.
a little...
i would like the next zelda to have more sidequests that you can complete even after beating the final boss.

There were Zelda games that did that. Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages. If you completed one game, it would give you a code to go to the other game. In that game, side quests would be introduced which you could only do in the first game -- you'd get a passcode, go back to your original game save, and enter them, allowing you to finish the side quest. Once it was finished, another passcode would be given to enter into your other game -- the item you obtained in the side quest would then be available to you in your new game.
I personally don't want Zelda games to go on after the boss. Even if you can though, I'd still rather be able to go to the temple and fight the boss again, as always, and still get the ending.

Yeah, but you can't prove to anyone else that you did. It just looks like you got to the last battle and got bored...

Is that honestly an issue? If these friends are aware that you cannot save after the boss battle why would they use that as any sort of argument against you completing the game?
I agree. I would like to see how Hyrule is after Gannondorf is defeated.Head_of_gamesThat's what the montage of cheering folks during the credits is for! The camera zooms around to all the areas you visited and shows how happy everybody is. It's been like that since Ocarina of Time.
I know what you mean, though. The problem is that the developers would have to do a lot of extra work coming up with "uncursed" environments, the writers would have to provide all new post-evil-times lines for the NPCs, there would probably have to be less ominous music in some places.... That's just too much work to be justified, I think.
