Sadly many Xbox graphics surpass Wii graphics but if you go to the Wii's full power than the Wii has slightly superior graphics than the max of the Xbox

What game would you say uses "MAX" of the Xbox's graphical potential?
...I'd say Super Mario Galaxy is only a portion of what the Wii is graphically capable of...
I say this because the best graphics usually come when the console has been around for afew years.
I have seen wii graphics and they look decent enough, and i have seen GC and they look impressive still.
the original xbox has beautiful graphics too, specially on games like ninja gaiden. but its very sad that a nex-gen console graphics
is not equal to but even less than an older generation console. I think nintendo should have made it a tad better

I think Nintendo shouldn't be allowing some of these terrible games(not to mention graphics) to be made for their system.
Don't get me wrong: There is tons of great ones, but for every great one there are 3-4 terrible games on the Wii.

No, I'd say that Super Mario Galaxy is pushing the Wii to the max. Remember, there was almost no leap from the GC to the Wii, so in the end, don't expect games that are too much better than the GC or the Xbox. Nintendo made a statement with the Wii that the focus of games shouldn't be on graphics. Why do you think the Wii is so underpowered?? Nintendo knew that the Wii wasn't going to be much more powerful than either the Gamecube or the XBOX, but they are saying that the games should focus on the fun, and not on the graphics. I am satisfied with the graphics in Excite Trus, Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, and MoHH2.

Normally this is true, however this is when a console, like the PS2, for example, is that much more powerful than its predeccesor, the PS in this case. That's because at the beginning of the console's system, programmers don't know fully how to use the system. This is not the case with the Wii. the Wii is built on Gamecube architecture, so programmers already know how to program for the system. Also, since there is almost no jump in power, the games from last gen, like RE4, are already using most of the power of the Wii. There is very little room to improve the graphics, so don't expect games that look too much better than Mario Galaxy.

So 2-3 times more powerful as Nintendo said is almost NO leap from the GC?

The Wii is about 1.7 times more powerful than the Wii. Look at the specs, the Wii has a 731 mhz processor, around what the original XBOX had. The PS3 is almost 10 times more powerful than the PS2, so to answer your question, no, there is almost NO leap from the Wii to the Gamecube. I, however, like the Wii as it is, and I don't need to exagerate its power to prove myself. I like the graphics in Mario Galaxy, Excite Truck, etc. If you are looking for a graphical powerhouse, try another console.
looking at screen shots for alot of the wii games the graphics look slight comparable to the original xbox. Or am i mistaken? Of course alot of games do look better in person rather than pictures. I'm just curious to knowBlin220
Judging graphics by screenshots work to a certain extent
The screens for Metroid Prime 3 for example didn't wow me at all, but after playing the game in motion it's beautiful.
That and Galaxy for me look slighlty better than Xbox games. Unfortunately, devs are being lazy in the graphics department right now eventhough Wii games do have the potential to look better. The Conduit and Factor5's project are pushing the Wii's hardware to its limit so hopefully we'll see more better looking games soon.

In this argument everybody forgets the Wii has more RAM then the Xbox, the Wii has a total 64Megs of GDDR of external RAM plus 24Megs of internal GPU RAM. This totals 88Megs over the total 64Megs in the Xbox and not to exclude an additional seperate 3Megs of embedded texture RAM in the Wii's GPU.
That means it has roughly the same clock speed but more RAM which is important to textures and is overall more powerful then the Xbox. So in that respect the graphics for the average games should be ideally in the high end Gamecube and Xbox graphics to bit better then those systems. Maybe the best looking Wii games by the end of the consoles life span should look something between an Xbox and a first generation Xbox 360.
Which is a shame that so many third party companies underuse the machine with cheap PS2 ports and low quality shovelware. I mean the Wii is no PS360 by any means but any developer worth his salt should make the most any system can offer regardless of the specs.

Isn't the Wii's CPU a Power PC processor? They've always run better and faster than Intel processors, at lower clock speeds to boot. Please Log In to post.
