I got my Wii on launch day and it makes a slight humming or droning noise when I play it now. My cousin has a Wii as well and used it much more often then me, and his makes a much louder noise and has trouble starting at times. I am just wondering if it is normal for Wii's to start to make these noises as they age, mine is very old but has relatively low play time on it, so it makes sense mine would start to go at some point but still function well.

Nope, it works fine. Maybe you should consider taking some place, buying a new one, or some other course of action. Hope it doesn't break.

I have the Black Wii when they started to have 2 pack in games. Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. So it is somewhat new. Works fine.

Yeah, mine still works fine but it getting a bit louder, I am sure it is just a product of it getting older, I'll probably get a Wii U at some point and don't play Wii so much anymore so as long as it gets me through Skyward Sword I should be safe assuming Wii U will be backward compatible with games.

The only time mines make news is when the disc drive is activated, you know like putting a disc in or taking one out. Otherwise, it doesn't make a sound. Oh and I had it since launch day.

Mine gets very loud but it settles down when a game is started. I was concerned at first but it doesn't affect anything.

I have an old Wii,but I can't play any disc games on it.My new Wii works fine though. It tends to make a lot of noise when playing some games, but doesn't seem to have any problems.I would say the game it makes the most noise on would be Modern Warfare Reflex.

Mine had that same problem. Then it started to get a lot worse and it wouldn't read games anymore. I took it apart and figured out that the disk drive was off centered I think it was. It was something like that, but now it works great!

Yes. Launch Wii. Sent it in when it didn't read Xenoblade (dual layered disc) and they cleaned it. Thought that would also eliminate the noise, but it didn't. Works fine otherwise though.

Yeah, it does not surprise me that launch Wii systems are starting to go in some way, PS3 lasers and XBox parts often go before the 5 years ago the Wii was launched. I am lucky I think to have a launch Wii with no issues other then the slight droning noise at times, but again I did not put a whole lot of hours on the Wii, maybe an average or 180 a year or so. My nephew who plays his all the time is younger (the Wii) and has the continuous loud drone, and sometimes don't read disks. Overall it seems like Nintendo make quality stuff, I still fire up my SNES I bought almost at launch time back in my parents basement every couple of years and so far each time it workes.

My old Wii made a buzzing noise when a disc was inside because the disc edge was rubbing against something as it spun, it didn't do any damage but it was so annoying. Sent it to Nintendo twice, they claimed they fixed it but it kept going. So I bought a new one.

Mine's a launch model and it's the same quiet little box it's always been. I've played it fairly regularly for 5 years. My launch day PS3 hasn't given me any problems either. I've been strangely lucky with hardware this generation!

Clicks and clacks too. Most notably when I'm playing Brawl. Besides that, it just hums. I think it's just the disk and the fan spinning.

That doesn't sound good. My Wii can make a entire farm of noises but it's never buzzed.

It really doesn't sound good xD But it doesn't harm any of my discs whatsoever, but it's like you can hear the disc spinning, or something...

and when you turn the Wii off you can hear the disc slowing down

This is why I don't share consoles with my brothers

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mp1ZQS4UC9g

it makes that noise

But I don't wanna risk screwing anything up doing his fix xD

Mine kind of does but only after it fell off the shelf a couple of times. My dam little bro knocked it over so many times. It still works great though and its a launch system that has had many many hours played on it :)
