I've noticed that Nintendo is bringing back some N64 games and updating them for the 3DS. Do you think they would make a 3DS game out of Donkey Kong 64? Also, would you be interested in it if they did?

I'de definitely be interested in it if they touched up the graphics just a little, since they are worn out from way back when.
But yes, since I've never played it, I'de gladly dive into it for fun.
I sure hope that by the time the 3DS drops to a price I find worth it, they have grown out of their "port" phase and has started making new games.
there arent actually that many remakes on the way to 3DS :S most seem to be original titles and theres nowt wrong with a remake of a classic game, specially, if like OOT, they give younger gamers a good culture shock ;-)Less remakes, more new games.

All three Donkey Kong Country games are on Wii Virtual Console, and the one Rare-owned arcade game in DK64 could easily be replaced with something else in a remake.Rare is owned by Microsoft, so this most likely won't be happening anytime soon

From past experiences it seems Microsoft has no problem letting Rare develope games for Nintendo handhelds since Microsoft is not in direct competition with Nintendo when it comes to handhelds. Rare made a game for the Nintendo DS if I am not mistaken, so it could happen.
As much as i'd like me some Donkey Kong 64, i'd rather see new games. Old franchises, new games!!!

I really couldn't agree more with you.
I do like some remakes but a lot of them are just an easy (and lazy) way to cash in.

But Nintendo own the rights to Donkey Kong ;)
Ok, let me rephrase my statement . Nintendo could make Donkey Kong 64 if they could get Rare to work with them again. I think the best thing to do is get a new developer, like they did with DKCR
Don't count on it. They've been doing the port thing for years, and started the DS off the same way.I sure hope that by the time the 3DS drops to a price I find worth it, they have grown out of their "port" phase and has started making new games.

Yeah, this. Regardless of whether a Donkey Kong game is completely new or a DK64 remake I will be happy. Donkey Kong 64 is one of my favorite games ever (just got done replaying it a few weeks ago actually) and having it on the go would be awesome. As much as i'd like me some Donkey Kong 64, i'd rather see new games. Personally I'd rather have ALL NEW games. However, I will say that I loved the N64 era platformers and never got around to fully playing DK64 because imo the game had performance issues, and not to mention I believe I owned a DC at the time.
Yes. It seems unlikely we'll see Donkey Kong 64 on the Virtual Console though I think Retro Studios should do the job.
DK64 was a massive, massive scavenger hunt. The entire game. Really. Has it's fun moments, but far overrated IMO.
New DK please.

Actually I feel it's rather underrated. So what if it's Banjo-Kazooie with apes, it's an awesome game. And I believe the fact that it's massive is only a positive thing. I don't like short games.

Fair enough, but if we're going to make the comparison to Banjo-Kazooie, imo Banjo had way better level design, more interesting levels, and had much less emphasis on collection.
In DK64 you had to traverse the massive levels ( I agree, that's a good thing,) with all 5 characters and collect Bannana after Bannana. Whereas in Banjo you collect theone set of notes in each level once.
Needless to say I think Banjo is a much better game. DK is a solid 7 in my book, but DK belongs in side scrolling platformers.
DK64 was awesome for the first few levels when you're just kickin Kremlin-ass with DK and Diddy. But then it all tired out rather quickly IMO.

That's interesting because I feel the level design in DK64 is superior to Banjo-Kazooie.
I'd probably buy it. DK64 was the first N64 game I got (along with Staduim and Smash Bros) so it'll always hold a place in my heart. If it had a revamped camera system and tighter controls it would be awesome. I loved being able to use all the characters and the multiplayer was incredibly fun too.
I want a Donkey Kong Country collection for the 3DS it would good to include DKC 1, 2, 3 and DK64. Retro Studios wouldn't even have to handle the port especially since Grezzo could do it since Grezzo did a good job on remaking Ocarina of Time. I don't see how it's a problem with Rare as Rare have already stated that Nintendo owns the series and Rare have no decision in what Nintendo do with it.
I was just playing the original one that I got from the E-Shop not too long ago and was wondering the same thing. Most likely it will probably be a new game. Donkey Kong is known for it's sequels and has yet to come up with a remake that I know of(not counting ports). I'd rather just see a new one. We've had enough remakes for a while.
The n64 classics were great the only other possible remake we need is Zelda Majora's Mask and the only reason i say that one is because we have Ocarina of Time already for the 3ds. It wouldn't be right without it on the 3ds seeing as its almost just as good as oot and it would complete the two n64 zeldas. I wouldn't mind seeing Conkers Bad fur day on the 3ds but its just not possible seeing Rare is owned by Microsoft. Itd be awesome playing a port of the og xbox cbfd with enhanced visuals along with 3d and wifi mp.
I'm cool with classics seeing as i grew up on them starting from the atari days but keep up as downloadble titles not retail and bring on the new content and games. The Launch titles are enough remakes and quick cashins that will last for the rest of the 3ds's lifetime no more need of em at this point.
I'd prefer a brand new mix of 2D and 3D Donkey Kong much like Super Mario 3D Land, called Donkey Kong 3D Land.
It would fit with the handheld theme and mix up both gameplay s(tyles)
If there is anymore N64 remakes, I'd prefer them to hit the eShop instead for like $15-$20
But I'll take of Cube remakes. I would be against at all Melee while we wait for the next SSB. Or Wind Waker/Sunshine
how about a brand new game? I could care less about all these stupid remakes, they're only ever gonna remake the insanely popular ones that i already played a dozen times when they came out..PoisoN_Facecam0
A good remake is better than a poor new game imo. And some remakes are worth playing even if you played the original game already.
