The Wii U ain't doing so hot sales wise. While it needs better software, a lower price, better marketing, well it needs a lot of things to get more people than just us on board. But I want to say something now because I can already see people clamoring for an Ambassador's Program for the Wii U once the price drops much like the 3DS in July 2011. If the Wii U price is cut at E3 in June, or afterwards (I imagine it will stay its current price until August or September and then simply drop the Deluxe to $299) than we won't get an Ambassador's program nor should anyone complain about it. The 3DS was a special case. Nintendo took early action only 4 months (120 days) after it released in North America. It hit stores March 27th, 2011 and got a price drop announced late July 2011 for August 12th, 2011. So roughly 4 months. That's honestly on the border whether Nintendo should feel like they own early adopters anything. We're adults and we know there are chances of price drops, new bundles, etc. If you just can't bare the risk of something better coming along then wait. You're an adult. If the Wii U gets a price cut at E3 there is actually a lot of precedent saying that it is fine to not have an Ambassador's program or any sort of compensation for early adopters. I can already imagine people flipping out in late June when the Wii U drops $50 saying "I want mah Cube VC games for free!" Look at the GameCube. $199 in November 2001, price dropped to $149 in May 2002. 6 months. Similar thing with the original Xbox. The DS even got a price cut after roughly 10 months by $20. We all know how Sony worked down their PS3 price down from $600 to $400 within 11 months of release. What I'm saying is that we should be prepared for people to complain about not getting free content should the Wii U's price get cut at E3 or shortly after. If so, this would be 7-8 months after launch. I really think that's too far away from launch to act entitled to compensation for being an early adopter. What do you guys think? If the Wii U's price got cut at E3 would you feel entitled to free content for buying it at launch? Or would you understand why you wouldn't?

Quiet

Nintendo screwed over it's users by not providing dev units soon enough for third party devs to know the ins and outs well, because of that we had a mostly inferior third party lineup from devs and anyone who's not on board now will never be on board.

They launched a console with a painfully slow OS that takes in some cases minutes to switch between screens

And to top it off they decided that they weren't going to make games for months after the console released.

Nintendo failed on their end of the bargain.

Don't tell people to sit down and love that they got screwed.

They don't owe me anything. I'm enjoying the console and am more then happy with my purchase. It was worth paying more to have it sooner.

The 3DS's ambassador program is the first of its kind I've ever seen. I wouldn't expect any multinational corporation to be that consumer friendly ever again.

Im having fun with the Wii U. If you're not TC, why do you have to come here and point it out to everyone? Blog it.

These troll topics are getting stupid. Take it to System Wars if nothing else. Leave these forums to actual constructive discussion for Nintendo consoles.

no, the title says "you thought the system was worth $300-350, don't act like you deserve some compensation when the price lowers". things go down in price. the wii u will go down in price. the 3DS will go down in price a second time. but people shouldn't assume they'll get compensated for paying more at an earlier date, just because nintendo felt bad about doing it so soon one time.

Makes me wonder if people even read anymore. This isn't a troll topic. This isn't negatively bashing the Wii U. This is a thread about the eventuality of a price drop and people's expectations of an ambassador program.

@ Superbuuman: Perhaps I could have phrased the title a bit better, but Year of the Snake is correct @ JaysonGuy: How long would you like Nintendo to hold your hand before they drop the price on the device? You're an adult who knows that being an early adopter has its cons. Did you demand a refund from your Wireless Phone provider when they sold the phone you purchased for X amount for half that price weeks or months later? Also, they didn't exactly decide "Lol let's not release any games in Jan/Feb." You know its not that simple. With sales how they are they would likely release Wii Fit U, Pikmin 3, Wario, Wonderful 101 if they were finished. Fact is they aren't.

I agree.  The simple fact is this- especially on gaming website forums - we're well informed as to what will or will not be released.  I wait to purchase a new console until a must have game of my taste arises, for the Wii U that has not happened yet so I have refrained from purchasing one.

Adopting a console early always runs certain risks such as software/hardware malfunction, future price drops etc.

That's the way the gaming market works.  You don't like it, don't endorse a company's product.

I'm not expecting anything. I am an early adopter at my own risk and it's not like Nintendo is trying to rip us off. They may be having trouble, so why should we impose a rewards program that puts even more pressure on the company? How needy can we get? I'm not sure why they felt obligated to implement the ambassador program for the 3DS but I admire them for it.

Why is anything negative against nintendo or suggesting a price drop incoming a troll to you? Like seriously, get out  This thread isn't even negative. Anyway, I completely agree with the OP. Nintendo is NOT obliged to provide such a service because they drop the price. Anyone who has bought the system already (I included) were early adopters and we decided we'd buy the system at that price. Nintendo didn't hold a gun to our head and force us to buy it, we made a choice to buy it at that price.

They didn't need to do an ambassador program. I bought what I bought. I knew what I was getting myself into. I wasn't expecting anything for the 3DS and I'm not expecting anything for the Wii U.

In regards to whether they'll do a price drop; I think they'll do more bundles before slashing the price. We'll see.

I don;t think the Wii U even needs a price drop. $300 isn't that expensive for a console. It just needs more games.

Consoles and games cost less to buy now then they did in 2006.

You can buy more with your dollar then you could in 2006.

Enough with the economy excuse

Actually, it's pricing considering the machine is using tech from six to seven years ago. The only reason why the Wii U is even at 300 is because of the tablet controller. Had Nintendo just stuck with traditional controls, we'd have seen it at priced no more than 250, the same price of the original Wii.

I was factoring in the controller and the SSD as well. It's not all that expensive for what it comes with, Nintendo just isn't executing properly. The OS is simply too slow for such a new system, hopefully they can get that worked out. I think they rushed to release it before the holiday.

I don't expect anything from Nintendo should they drop the price soon.

I decided that the Deluxe Bundle was worth spending my $350 on, so I bought it.  I bought it expecting that Nintendo would drop the price within a year (or earlier) but I wanted it day one so I bought it.  That's all I'm entitled to.

I wouldn't care if they lowered the price and didn't give any free stuff for Ambassador systems. I mean, I'm enjoying the system a lot and don't feel they owe me anything.

At this point I don't even expect games I can buy to come to Wii U, never mind free ones :P.

Also, the 3DS Ambassador games were't just given because of the price drop. They where also given out because of the lack of games released up until that point as well, so if you factor in that the Wii U is in a far worse version of the same situation the 3DS was in, Nintendo might just see fit to do another Ambasador Program, but who knows, in the end it's up to them.

I'm not looking for an Ambassador Program. I got my Wii U because I feel that the launch lineup(Pikmin 3), and promising 1st party games in the future are worth it. Of course, Pikmin got pushed back and Rayman was recently shafted; so I'm waiting a bit longer than I'd like for games that I purchased the system for. Still, I have plenty of games to preoccupy me until then.

If Nintendo comes out with another Ambassador Program, great, but I didn't buy the system with a sense that the company would give me handouts if things didn't go according to their plan.

So you bought the Wii U thinking that the OS would be broken and that Nintendo would pull games from the schedule and then apologize for the console having no games?

Waiting up to 5 minutes for an app to load or close is broken.

For some users posting to Miiverse and then back again takes over ten minutes of load times, that qualifies as broken.

Maybe yours is broken because it doesn't take 5 minutes to load an app on the Wii U.

I've seen some that take 45 seconds, but I haven't seen 5 minutes. The normal wait time is 15 seconds.

So you bought the Wii U thinking that the OS would be broken and that Nintendo would pull games from the schedule and then apologize for the console having no games?

Jaysonguy

The OS isn't broken, it is just too damn slow. It still works.

Waiting up to 5 minutes for an app to load or close is broken.

For some users posting to Miiverse and then back again takes over ten minutes of load times, that qualifies as broken.

Broken means that it doesn't work. The OS does work, it's just too slow. I've also never waited over a minute for an app to open or close.

Maybe yours is broken because it doesn't take 5 minutes to load an app on the Wii U.

Mine doesn't, Jordan and I were watching people's consoles on YouTube

First I've heard of this. Yeah, sometimes it's slow, but never in the several minute mark.

I'd like to add too that the whole criticism about updating the console at launch was overblown.

What electronics device do you own in today's world where you don't have to update firmware immediately? I got a new bluray player a few months ago, I had to update the device. I got the Samsung Galaxy S3 in December and also had to update that device as well as any of the apps that were pre-installed. The laptop I bought last April was the same deal (not to mention the fact that I use Ubuntu, I get updates everyday + the sudo update cmd). Updates are normal.

The amount of time it took to update was also expected. The first day of launch, thousands of people connecting online to download the update. Was 45 minutes of your time really that bad if you only had to do it once?

Anyway I'm getting off topic ... but it was just really bothersome.

I believe a lot of people were upset because they weren't expecting that from a Nintendo console. People want to rip open their systems and start playing, but some not only had to wait 45 minutes.. depending on their connection, they had to wait hours.

[QUOTE="Empty_World"]I think the economy is a problem. If you look at the recent console/handheld launches the numbers have been down.Jaysonguy

Consoles and games cost less to buy now then they did in 2006.

You can buy more with your dollar then you could in 2006.

Enough with the economy excuse

That's not true.
