REGGIE:

"Right now, it's still in development, but the key message that Mr. Miyamoto and Mr. Aonuma is telling us is that it really has to be perfect when it launches. That really is what the Zelda fan is expecting. So for all those Zelda fans out there right now, what I would say is, enjoy Spirit Tracks and know that the Zelda title for Wii will come out when it's perfect."

I keep telling you kiddies.... don't get too excited just yet. Zelda Wii will not release in 2010 imo

I'm not surprised. At least they seem to be putting a lot of care into this. They don't want it to be released until it is 'perfect'. Hopefully it will live up to that statement.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if it did come out this year. If they need time to make it better, then I'm all for it. They shouldn't rush it. I'd be happy if they do end up releasing it this year, but I'm not holding my breath.

Launching the game in the last year of the Wii (new console announced every 5 years) could mean another layover to the next console and then the newest console gets a watered down version that never takes advantage of the hardware like Twilight Princess never did on the Wii.

I think Nintendo learned it's lesson porting Twilight Princess to the Wii from the Gamecube but who knows?

Well, we'll just have to see.

If Nintendo has to be just like Blizzard- than so be it.

Take the above statement however you will... :D

I just wish they would make it so you don't have to use motion controls. I know its for the Wii and thats what it does but I happen to like sitting on the couch to play video games and relax, I don't want to be up and moving my arms and such while playing games, but thats just me

sometimes, I'm really wondering if this might be the case as well. Who knows with their new strategies... but what I really think is below

In all honesty... if they can keep their software releases in "soft" spirts like they have been (keeping the Wii afloat) and the console keeps selling... I don't see them releasing a console in the next year or two. I think they're going to sit on the Wii/DS/DSi as long as they can until they're absolutely forced to do so by Nintendo shareholders.

Remember what Iwata just said about the DS' successor... "it will be more advanced (graphically) and have motion sensors, but don't expect it any time soon." I believe they're going to try to make the Wii last at least 7 years at the minimum. That's why... this game will not release in 2010 and follows my "too much software in a year" theory. All of their aces would be used up once again... so what would be next? Another Brawl? (I doubt it). They're going to save Zelda for 2011, along with Retro's project, and another industry known ip (Kirby/StarFox/etc). They already have enough 1st/2nd party software to fill 2010 up, as well as 3rd party material that could potentially be competition.

The only way that I forsee them releasing it any earlier than 2013 is if Sony/MS' new tech start tearing into Wii sales big time. Depending on their price points, bundles, and user friendliness (Unique Selling Points).... We'll see how it works out.

This.

Iwata is the president of Nintendo for crying out loud, so I would take his word over Reggies any day. Also, Reggie is just playing it safe, and he is probably not aloud to say anything about the game. One more thing, he was on a Nintendo show that does not get many viewers, so do you really think he would confirm anything on that show?

Oh, and I think it would be a great move by Nintendo if they release the big three this year because Sony and Microsoft are releasing their motion sensor controllers. Therefore, with the other two trying to get the casual players to buy their product Nintendo can focus more on the hardcore players this year.

How does this suggest that it's not coming out 2010? It was confirmed to come out 2010. This likely just means "enjoy Spirit Tracks till next Christmas when Zelda Wii comes out".

lol so what you guys are going to flip flop after every sentence that comes out of Nintendo. That statement in no way indicated that they were not commited to the time frame they gave, people should really stop looking so deeply for meaning that does not exist and just take things for what they are. Iwata said 2010, so its 2010. Who takes a straight forward statement and thinks "well I don't know" but then takes an ambiguous statement that is basically just saying "when Zelda releases it will be perfect" and from THAT comes up with the assumption that the game wont make it this year. I mean do people really fear disappointment that much? They said 2010 so until they say otherwise, its 2010.
i expected it to come to n/a next year and in dec this year in jpn truthfully said nintendo would be stupid to release it this year when a lot of good first party games coming out this yearelbert_b_23
One that makes no sense, two this would not, I repeat will not, one more time WILL NOT be the first time Nintendo has released all these titles in one year. Releasing them in all in the same calendar year is the least of thier concerns, its the fiscal year. And a year with Mario, Zelda and Metroid will make a very good fiscal year.

In addition to everything Sepewrath said, I'd also like to mention that they've been working on Zelda Wii since before the Wii launched in 2006 and they wanted to have it done for the Wii's launch, but it wasn't ready, so they ported over Twilight Princess. So since it's been worked on for probably around 6 years now, it should be ready before 2011.

No Its very likely Zelda was very ready for its 2005 launch, look how close to launch it was delayed. They would have known before that they weren't going to make it. That was a marketing delay through and through, Nintendo's thought pattern was very likely "Mario wont be ready" or "we can hold on to Mario" so whats the next best game to launch the console with? Zelda was held back just so the Wii could have its killer app on day 1. Like I said in other topics, Nintendo will play the hell out of the market, another example is NSMB and Galaxy 2. However I do believe that they have been working on this game since before TP launched and even if they weren't games don't usually take more than 3 years to develop and we know for sure they have been working on it prior to E3 2007.

So for all those Zelda fans out there right now, what I would say is, enjoy Spirit Tracks and know that the Zelda title for Wii will come out when it's perfect."

Well, obviously they want it to be perfect. That's how they want all their games to be. That's probly why they take years to make certain games. And I'm sure from their point of view this Zelda will be perfect too. But no matter how perfect it is, there will always be people who nit pick and find anything and everything they can to complain about it. As has been the case with every other Zelda. Some people will love it, while some will hate it.

I don't think there's a single Zelda game to date where everyone can agree that it's awesome, or that it's the best. There have been tons of threads here asking which Zelda game is your favorite, which is the best etc. From what I've read a lot of people seem to like certain Zelda games over others, but no one here can agree on which is the best Zelda because everyone enjoys games differently and has different opinions.

When this new Zelda does come out, it'll be the same way. A lot of people are going to love it, a lot are going to hate it, no matter how perfect it is.

All I get from Reggie's statement is that they want it to be perfect, and since Spirit Tracks is out now we should all enjoy what it has to offer. No where in that statement does it say that the new Zelda isn't coming this year. I don't get that from reading it either.

If anything I think it further confirms the new Zelda will be released near the end of 2010 because it won't take 10-12 months for everyone to beat Spirit Tracks. I find it hard to believe that they'd expect people to enjoy Spirit Tracks well into next year, maybe people who haven't bought it yet or don't plan on buying it for a few months down the road, but that's assuming that the new Zelda doesn't come out this year. Not to say that Spirit Tracks is a bad game, I enjoy it a lot and I'm sure a lot of other people do to. I haven't beat it yet, or played it much at all for that matter because I've been busy with other games. But once I do I probly won't come back to it any time soon. And it won't take me until the end of the year to beat it either.

I guess I'm just trying to say that I don't think Reggie would make a statement like that if the new Zelda wasn't coming this year.

Why? Wii sales didn't slow at all during the "drought" like I said they play the market, why not release Galaxy 2 next month, or in October of last year? They will hold games until they can maximize its potential. They held Twilight Princess so they could sell Wii consoles, smart move in my opinion. Why support the GC with a game of that calibre? A dead console that was a year from being a memory, instead of a console that was new, highly anticipated and could play the GC version as well? There was no point in throwing Zelda Wii out there during a time where the gap between major Nintendo release could be bridged with smaller titles like Excitebots, Punch Out and Wario Land in the middle of a recession where people were spending less when you can hold it for potentially greener pastures? I think Nintendo's big plan was NSMB...few months later Galaxy 2...few months later Other M...few months later Zelda Wii, thats an onslaught which assures you a crap load of revenue because one game leads to the next. As oppossed to Zelda Wii all alone for a year, NSMB alone for like 6 months..than Galaxy 2 and then Other M.

Well Nintendo has been doing better as of late with there predicted release dates but nothing has really been at the level of Zelda. Just hope it does not turn out like TP and get delayed for 1.5 years.

Exactly what I've been thinking. We got a GC port Zelda at the beginning, and we'll get a new one at the end of the Wii. Can't say I'm a fan of console Zelda game's release dates.. I'd rather have an extremely nice Zelda game for their next console, than to get a really late Wii game, when you've grown even more tired of what the Wii is offering (hardware-wise and what not), and then have to wait forever to get a Zelda on the next console.

Right now, it kind of feels like it would be better to wait with Zelda until the next console comes. I really don't want this Wii game ported to another console, and I really don't want to wait until the new console is 3 years old until I get to play Zelda on it.

I was actually surprised to see the original announcement of this game being released in 2010 , Zelda is known for being delayed again and again, so an early or mid 2011 release sounds more reasonable, then again, maybe Reggie is saying Japan will have it in December 2010, we are going to get it March 2011.

I think every Zelda game since release dates mattered has been delayed beyond the original set date. It's pretty standard to interpret Nintendo's release dates as "what they say +", with the + being at least a few months. That's just how it works. If it comes out this year, good, but don't be surprised if it doesn't.

I was actually surprised to see the original announcement of this game being released in 2010 , Zelda is known for being delayed again and again, so an early or mid 2011 release sounds more reasonable, then again, maybe Reggie is saying Japan will have it in December 2010, we are going to get it March 2011.

If this was the case, I would think this game would hae voice acting.

Because why?

Considering that Pokemon launched in Sept of 2009 in Japan while the US wont be seeing it until March of 2010

The reason why I said that is because It does not make sense if Nintendo release this game in Japan for the holidays and not North America if it's complete.

However, I would understand if this game had voice acting, and it did not come out in the same time frame as Japan. Nintendo is still working on the game, right? Therefore, the whole game is in Japaneses, so if they had voice acting in the game, it would be all in Japaneses.

So with that being said, it would be much easier for Nintendo to release this game in Japan for the holiday then North America because it would take longer for the Nintendo of America to alter Japanese voices to English voices. Oh, and Nintendo better get really good voice actors if this happens.

I'm not sure if I like this direction

Launching the game in the last year of the Wii (new console announced every 5 years) could mean another layover to the next console and then the newest console gets a watered down version that never takes advantage of the hardware like Twilight Princess never did on the Wii.

If it goes into 2011 you may not see a Wii version at all, just have it for the newest console.

I think Nintendo learned it's lesson porting Twilight Princess to the Wii from the Gamecube but who knows?

I made a thread about it maybe being ported to the next console and everyone said that wasn't a possiblity. I really hope it doen't

NA and EU would come first given the sales of Twilight Princess in Japan. Also don't know why people keep saying Zelda games are always delayed because the only ones with notable delays were Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess and the former just took forever, it never really had a release date. When they announced the release dates for Majora's Mask and Windwaker they stuck to them.
