I mean I was just thinking about it and don't know what makes it so impossible for someone else to pick up and play too but not your file. Also, these carts are getting bigger and bigger so I don't see the problem! lol

I'm just gonna throw this out there, as I have no evidence to back up my suspicion... but I feel that Nintendo do this in order to maximize sales of the two versions they put out each time. Outrageous claim? Perhaps. But I can't think of any other reason. Would love to know the real answer because I'm sure this has been an issue in many households worldwide.
Actually, I'm pretty sure this guy's right about sales TBH. They definitely could get 2 saves, despite Pokemon being one of the biggest games on a DS cart IIRC. Because sure, you can't connect with a second save, so it's not as useful, but some people definitely would like it.I'm just gonna throw this out there, as I have no evidence to back up my suspicion... but I feel that Nintendo do this in order to maximize sales of the two versions they put out each time. I would love it. Sometimes you just want to start a new adventure without deleting all your time, progress, and Pokemon. Some of us just don't have the access to trade their valuable Pokemon to safe places.

I'd love this too, but I agree that Nintendo's doing it for money. While you can't connect between the files (so you can't trade or anything) I've seen many a household with more than one Pokemon gamer. In these cases, Nintendo's making double, or sometimes even triple, the money.

And sadly, I never thought about that. lol
I don't because it's a one player game on a personal handheld
If it were on a console then yeah, that's a device that can be used by more then one person and even at the same time
On the handheld it's one per person with everything and I understand about replaying a game but at the same time if you really do try to complete a Pokemon game that's going to run you a ridiculously long period of time.
I would like a way to keep the Pokemon you caught if you wanted to start another game and that's it, I don't see the need for making more then one player on DS games.

I'd be extremely content with that. That's the sole reason I'm so hesitant to start new games.
Why do you assume the DS is only for one player? I know people who share a DS. And aren't there other DS single player games with multiple save files? Like Zelda. The game would be a lot better with two saves. Things like the GTS and duplication glitches throw the whole "getting them all legitimately" thing (or whatever you want to call it) out the window. I want to be able to experience the game again without erasing everything or buying a new game. But I doubt anything will change.I don't because it's a one player game on a personal handheld

The purpose of the two versions is having different Pokemon, that is why people buy both, multiple save files in the game wouldn't change that. You mentioned a single household with more than one Pokemon gamer, well I would assume they get the two different versions. I would guess that they don't have multiple save files because they don't deem it necessary for a game like Pokemon, its a handheld that you carry around, Pokemon is the kind of game you can play in short spurts on the street, but also one where you can put a ton of hours into it. They might just view it as not the type game your going to share, there are even console games like that.I'm just gonna throw this out there, as I have no evidence to back up my suspicion... but I feel that Nintendo do this in order to maximize sales of the two versions they put out each time. Not really, it helps nintendo continue the whole "two versions" thing. So if you want them all, and a fresh start again you have to buy it again.
I'm ok with this too.

I'm not bashing you at all. But say you have Pokemon Black. You still get the same exclusives you would always get it's just there would finally be two save slots. So in order to get them "all" you would still have to buy White or trade with someone who has it.
I don't see how that defeats the two version thing at all. :)
^Thanks for posting. But I think this discussion should be over. MODS, you can close it whenever you want. :)
I don't really lend out my games so your reason isn't a big concern for me. I want two files because sometimes I want to start a new game without deleting all my hard work. Some people might want a file for their competition and another for just playing and collecting pokemon. But I agree, it should have two files. Especially with the increased data capacity of the cartridges.
stop for a moment.BrunoBRSBut do you think it actively saves all that data in the few seconds it takes to save? I really don't know... I'm asking for your input. In my mind, I picture the game saving the current 'state' of the game, instead of unnecessarily going through all that data. For example, when you start up your game and move two steps and save, it doesn't take too long to save. However if you go and do a bunch of things like moving pokemon in your box, training, beating trainers, etc then that wakes a bit longer. Considering that DS carts could handle games twice the size of Pokemon I would (like to) say that Pokemon games could have two save files.

Considering that DS carts could handle games twice the size of Pokemon I would (like to) say that Pokemon games could have two save files. the game, from what i've noticed, "keeps note" of what must be overwritten. so if you go wherever, take a billion steps and end up somewhere else, it'll save the new location (and possibly the new amount of xp from the day care pokemon) and it'll save quite fast. now switch pokemons on the PC, deposit some and withdraw others, and stay in the exact same place, it'll already give you the "saving a lot of data". now just imagine: if putting a new pokemon on your team from your inbox and depositing the one previously on your team is "a lot of data", imagine how much space all those millions of pokes you have room to store take. the save file itself might never be that big, but there's room to reach it. that's why i think there isn't more than a single save file yet.
[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"]stop for a moment. spend about 10 minutes trying to name everything that the game has to save every time you press "yes" twice. almost 600 pokemon, each one with different names, EVs, stats, ribbons, held items, personality traits and current condition (to name a few characteristics), your whole bag with order and everything, your position, the place in the story, how you sorted the box, who you fought and who you didn't... those are only the ones i could think in a few seconds. i'm pretty sure that's why there can't be two save files. not on the handheld games, where the data storage is limited to the game card. if we were talking consoles...Alpherix.....It doesn't save all that, The save files just put everything you have at that moment into one compressed file. There are 493 pokemon in the game, limitless wild pokemon, it doesn't save those, it saves what there and then. Knowing that, a save file won't barely fill one megabyte if not 80kb. wild pokemon are randomly generated. but the data of all the pokes stored in all your 14 boxes plus the ones in your parties isn't.
