Don't you wish there was a "Universal" Smash Brothers game?

The ideo behind Smash Brothers (getting a bunch of characters from different games in the same game to kick the living crap out of each other) is awesome, but wouldn't it be totally badass if it were universal? I mean, what if they had characters from ALL the great games out there.

Who would you want to see in a Smash Brothers game, regardless of publisher/developer?

I'd like to see:

Marvel and DC characters (like Wolverine, Batman, Spiderman, Superman, ect)
Half-Life Characters (Gordon, Alyx, Dog, G-Man!)
Halo characters (Master Chief, The Arbiter, maybe a Brute)
The Doom Space Marine
Duke Nukem
TF2 charactes (The Pyro, the Demo Man, the Heavy for example)
Bionic Commando
Boy and His Blob
Bub and Bob
Ratchet and Clank
Jack and Daxter
Star Wars Characters (Kenobi, Yoda, Vader, Boba Fett)
Final Fantasy Characters (Particularly Cloud, Sephiroth, Red XIII - Yes, Ehrgeiz was cool)
Hit Man (Agent 47)
Altair from Assasin's Creed
The generic male Shepard from Mass Effect
CoolSpot (hehehe)
Conan
Maybe some LOTR characters (Aragorn, Gimly, Legolas, Gandalf)
Maybe some D&D characters (Drizzt, Elminster, ect)
Warcraft characters? (Thrall and Jayna Proudmoore)
Earthworm Jim
The guy with a shotgun from Black Thorn
Lemmings!
Characters from Chrono Trigger (Crono, Marle, and Lucca)
Toejam and Earl
Bonk from Bonk's Adventure
Mortal Kombat characters (Lu Kang, Scorpian, Sub-Zero, Goro)
Street Fighter Characters (Ryu, Chung-Li, Guile, and Blanka)

There's a ton of possible characters out there. It's basically not possible, but it's a cool idea! Who else would you like to see in a character-mashup fighting game?

There would be far too many characters. You need an actual theme. "Universal" is too open. Something like a Playstation version of Brawl and an Xbox version of Brawl would be cool. But that's where I'd draw the line.

Sounds a little crazy, but I'd love to see Jack and Daxter, and their final smash would be dark jack, where hes all strong and stuff. Plus hed have double or triple jump with his light jack wings.

hold on, i think its impossible to have a xbox or playstation version of brawl. they just dont have enough original characters. playstation does have a few: jak and daxter, ratchet and clank, god of war guy....... now what??? for xbox: master chief, blinx...... thats it.

nintendo has more classic and original characters and brawl should only stick with nintendo ;)

In the future when Sony, M$oft, and Nintendo become one company and become a monopoly and preserve Sakurai's brain in some fluid.

i would have always liked a sega vs nintendo fighting game. Taking cues from marvel vs capcom cross overs but with the brawl play style. Since you guys already got sonic, how about vectorman? Or toejam and earl, rystar, ecco, robotnik (refuse to call him eggman), Ryu/Zio/ Dark Force from phantasy star, or any character from sonic for that matter. I mean come on they had mario and sonic at the olympics, why not have sega's stars against nintendo's?

Maybe a Sega vs. Nintendo game would be good, but they would have to get Nintendo to actually make the game rather than Sega. After all, Sega would just mess it up.

Or they could take carefully selected characters from some of the biggest franchises in gaming. Like have Banjo, Mega Man, Conker, Ratchet & Clank etc., and then have several cameo appearances, or some games would make up stages but not necessarily have their characters appear. I would love to see Rick from Splatterhouse take on Mario or Chris Redfield. Sadly there is no chance of it. Then again, I doubt anyone thought in the early 90's that Sonic & Mario would star in a game together, let alone two. No matter how much we wanted it.

It would take forever to balance all those characters, and I'm not sure it could ever be done properly. Games need some sort of focus to prevent them from getting too large and uncontrollable. That game sounds like it would be in development forever and cost far too much to produce.

Not that it wouldn't be cool...it's just implausible.

No. Nintendo made it first, and that's how I like it. The other systems have their series, Nintendo is no different. It was nice to see Sonic and Snake in there, but it would have been acceptable had they not made an appearance as well. Leave my Smash alone Damnit!

Besides it's only a matter of time before the other systems follow suit and make some sort of game like this one. Mark my words it will happen.

A bit too much. I wouldn't mind seeing the Mortal Kombat characters vs SF characters. And throw Kratos from GOW in there just for kicks.

Wow, not one person would like to see a huge mashup of various gaming all-stars. I'm surprised. Like I said, it's never going to happen, and I didn't put more then a few minutes of thought into it. But I still like to fantasize. I don't see what the problem is with that. Then again, I guess I posted this idea in the wrong forum. Most people in the Wii section are die hard Nintendo fans. Oh well, it was just a thought.

That would cost far more money to produce in licensing fees than it could possibly sell. I also doubt that the discs the Wii uses could hold all those characters. It would be on the 360 and PS3 but with obscene loading times. I actually hope to God that this disaster never happens.

It's not impossible. You just have to look at it differently. Maybe it doesn't have to be a fighting game. Maybe Xbox could have a FPS with all of thei major FPS characters froms games like Halo, Gears of War and Bioshock. PS has plenty of characters. Unfortunatly most of their characters have been messed up since the PS to PS2 move (Spyro & Crash). They could also have Jak, Ratchet, Sly Cooper, God of War, Snake, Dante from DMC. Now I know that a lot of PS mascots have jumped ship a few times but they should still keep them in seeing as they became big on PS.

You guys just love to bash other people's ideas, don't you? Christ...

Anyway, you're missing the point of this thread. I'm not saying a game of this type would plausible, or even able to be accomplished. It would be a nightmare to coordinate all those different IP's and characters and balance them all. The point of the thread is, who else would you like to see in a Smash Brothers game, regardless of publisher/developer?

Oh, and I don't think it's as far fetched as you guys seem to think. For example, Half-Life characters. Gabe Newell and Valve have expressed alot of interest in the Wii, so you might be seeing some sort of partnership between Nintendo and Valve soon. If that happens, I wouldn't be surprised if the next installment of smash brothers had some characters from Valve games in it.

Edit: Just out of curiosity, I'd like to see what peoples reaction to this idea is on a non-Nintendo board...

I think the brawl formula would be great to apply to other franchises and such. I don't really wish for it though because I don't think there are enough moves to perform or good enough play balancing in a large set of characters like what SSBB has to really give me anything different. It would be simple model and skins swap. Which doesn't seem like that interesting of a game to me. But those that love the SSB genre would definately eat it up.
