Unfortunately, it does. Get a screen protector! It's your only hope!

What does a screen protector do, how does it work?

Where can I buy a screen protector for my old DS?

I never had a problem at all with PH. I only noticed that the screen would get dirty from the stylus and all I did was wipe it with a dry microfibre cloth and it was pristine again. I think that those who ruin their screens are not using the stylus, or just not using the stylus correctly. The screen can register the lightest touch from the stylus.

Woah, calm down. The stylus can still scratch the screen pretty badly.

Take a chill pill :)

Depends on how hard you push on it, if you just like gently use the touch screen when playing then it won't.

Dude its not gonna break, i have the game and my screen is fine, if you see what looks like a scratch wipe the screen with you sleeve and you'll notice its not scratched and its really just smeared and then covered... you know... like if you breathe on a window and write on it with your hand...

It does not mess up your screen. And for those of you who haven't read the instructions to your ds (most of you), it says only use the stylus and to use longer strokes. You don't need to smash the screen to play, you just need to tap it

It would be screwing up my screen if I didn't have a screen protector. Now the screen protector is taking all the damage :)

Well if you start hammering on your screen like crazy it'll be damaged, yes. But if you just handle it with care and use the stylus correctly (so no hammering, just gently tapping) I don't think it's going to be damaged very soon.
