In order for the Wii to have downloadable content, the Wii would require an external hard drive. I mean, the Wii's built in hard drive isn't even a gig, if the Wii had downloadable content, there wouldnt bem much space for it.

And Im not sure if it's possible for the Wii to have an external hard drive, I don't think theres a port for it.

Well thats the point of external it means outside.

It might be possible to hook one up to the usb port.

Yeah, duh.

As fir hooking one up through a USB port, I don't know. I've never seen a hard drive that could be hooked up via usb port.

I wish Flash Drives could of been used for an external drive to store content, my space on my Wii is already almost gone.

Minor correction: The Wii doesn't have a Hard Drive period. Only 512MB of internal flash memory.

I guess you've never seen an external harddrive then? Cause a good majority of them (if not all) hook up through at least USB, maybe even firewire and eSATA.

yea, anyways. do you get out much?? an external hard drive for the wii is very possible but probably not likely. When storage becomes a problem after wiiware comes out, nintendo will probably let you play them from an sd card. But if an external hd is released, a lot of problems would be solved!!

The final fantasy game for wiiware has downloadable content. Other wiiware games and even certain wii games will also have downloadable content.

Wii doesn't have that much space in the first place. It's a decent bit for old 8 and 16 bit games, but DLC like extra levels, or even better yet demos, it's a real limit for the Wii. There have been rumors of a USB hard disc drive in development as the Wii will desperately need it later on, and as far as I understand the Wii only supports SD cards up to 2.0 GB max.

4 GB cards may be a possibility as I've seen some non-SDHC 4 GB cards. 8 GB, though? Not a chance if Nintendo doesn't update the Wii's firmware to support SDHC. All of this wouldn't be a problem if Nintendo would simply support SDHC and USB Mass Storage, but they may be concerned about what people would do if they removed limitations regarding storage...

Explain why Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles My Life as King is going to have DLC content if the Wii can't do like you say.

If you're talking about DLC like the one that Halo 3, Rock Band, GHIII, are getting, then I wouldn't count on it until the Wii gets a HDD (if, the Wii gets one). But, if you've got Brawl, you know that Nintendo constantly sends you new stages, replays, and screenshots. Only difference is that after a day, it all disappears, so I wouldn't call it DLC. But apparently FFCC: My Life as a King, is going to have DLC. Whether that's like Brawl or like Halo 3, is yet to be seen.

problems: lack of space, price (come on! downloadable content is not free, but with the pay & play service for some Wii games, we might get it :D)

btw, what happened to all the speculations about the Wii getting a HDD?

Which might not even be possible, depending on how the hardware is configured.

SDHC can be added just by updating the firmware. Doesn't have anything to do with the hardware. My brother was looking in to writing drivers for his Mio (nav system) which uses Windows CE so that he could use SDHC cards.

Depending on how the SD controller is set up, it may not be enough to update the firmware. Some devices can be upgraded this way, while othes can't.

Well, I know about the Dell Axim X50v and X51v gaining SDHC capabilities when upgraded to Windows Mobile 6, but the HP iPAQ hx4700 still remains SDHC-less with its WM6 ROMs. Even worse is my old Palm Tungsten C that can't even read 2 GB SD cards, let alone anything SDHC... It could very well be that hardware is an issue, or people just haven't figured out how to develop SDHC drivers for some devices. (As to why the SD standard didn't originally support up to 137-something GB like CompactFlash does is beyond me.)

Did a quick google and found another forum with this reply in it:

indeed. i contacted the SD Card Association and they said very rarely is hardware upgrades required for the SDHC upgrade. only a driver upgrade which is the responsibility of the manufacturer. (so i figured i could steal one from something that is a close second)

http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=132339&page=2 that is the forum.

So, all that more than likely needs to be done is a firmware update to include the proper driver for the Wii to handle SDHC.
